Side Curtain Airbags

Got broadsided by a truck bigger than mine. Survived due to side curtain airbags.

The side curtain airbags are now my #1 shopping item.

The XL trucks dont seem to have side curtains. At least the stickers say that.

Is that a uniform across the XL series?

Standard equipment across all trim levels - from the brochure:
Airbags – Safety Canopy® System with sidecurtain airbags and rollover sensor

Wow. That's a very impressive performance. It shows that this truck would be what's safer than most ordinary vehicles if it were to be hit from the side. Not only does the structure help, but so does the fact that you're sitting so far up and there is just so much mass.

Yes it is. As soon as the "car" gets to the frame it doesn't go any farther into the passenger compartment.
Ford really stepped up the safety from the last generation Super Duty, which was comparable to other trucks designed in the late 90s, but by today's standards a bit dated.

The frontal impact crash testing is very good as well, add in the other safety features like automatic braking available on the higher trim levels and the rear inflatable seat belts (if Ford can get the recall fixed) if you have kids and the truck is really impressive.
