tick tick tick......

Good Afternoon,

I bought a '17 F250 SC SB 4x4 6.2 a couple months ago. My 6.2 seems to tick under light acceleration (1100-1400 rpms) and goes away outside of that range. The tick is not super loud, but I can hear it w/o the radio on. I've read that the 6.2 is a "loud" engine, wondering if this is what they meant? Other than that, it has plenty of power (and I say this also having a challenger RT) and has used about 1/3 of a quart of oil in 3500 miles, very good in my book.

What do y'all think? Do your 6.2's also do this?

Thanks,
America78

Very rarely I hear a bit of ticking when I start it. but it goes away after a couple of seconds. The injectors are slightly loud but not enough to hear in the cab. I would take it to the dealer. I never hear mine tick under light acceleration. My truck at 33k miles doesn't use a drop of oil between oil changes.

Make sure that you are using a quality oil and that your oil level is full.

Mine ticked a bit when cold started, but I switched to Castrol 5w30 Titanium full synthetic, and it went away.

Been using Castrol for 30 years. Good stuff.

About twenty years ago during my go-fast days I tried some castrol syntec. I was amazed that when I was pouring it in that the little drops of oil bouncing off the sides inside the funnel looked like shot...like little *****. I was amazed.

Mine does it too

My 6.2 ticks too. It too is only noticeable under light to mild acceleration. Sometimes it ticks loud when next too a wall at idle. My father has the same truck, but his is quiet. He drives more highway miles than I do. I rarely get on the highway and only average about 10.4mpg. He seems to get better fuel economy than me even on identical trips. I'm currently at 2400 miles and purchased the truck new in 11/17.

Once the cam phasers move, no more ticking. Return to idle, they bottom and tick. Normal.

Injectors are loud as well.

My engine has a light tick up to about 3000 RPMs. It is not only at idle. The transmission usually shifts before it exceeds 3000 RPMs and if it doesn't, the roar of the engine is loud enough to cover up the ticking. Is anyone else's like this?

I took my truck into the dealer yesterday and they found a bad purging valve on the engine. The engine is quieter now, has a little more power (butt dyno verifies), and initially the fuel economy seems better but it is too early to be sure.

I've heard mine tick a few times on a cold morning start but not every morning. At first I thought it was an hydraulic valve lifter but I don't think this engine has them. We were at Walmart the other day and when I started the truck it was so quiet in the cab I was wondering whether the engine was running or not. Love it.

Mine does have the tick if it’s cold outside when first starting. But if I go threw a drive threw restaurant and the engine echo comes off the outside of the building I can hear it still. I have ford do all my maintenance so I’m hoping it’s ok

I know exactly what your talking about, but I'm quite certain that is the injectors firing.
