All but one dash backlight out?

All but one backlight is out in the dash, including the AC\Heater controls. The one at the top of the speedo works. All the indicator work fine.

I've checked fuse F18 and tried the dimmer.

Not really sure where to start from here with figuring this one out other than opening the dash up and seeing if all of the lights just happen to be bad. This truck is new to me, so I have no idea if they all went out at once or over time, but that seems rather unlikely to me.

they are all powered together on the backside of the board......... If ONE works, I would assume the power is OK and possibly the other bulbs are burnt.

I'm really interested in what you find out. As my truck has the same problem. How hard will it be to replace the bulbs?

Jingle, that's what I've figured it must be, but that many lights out seems really unlikely to me.

steve, I've checked F18 with a multimeter for continuity and its good. I'll check out the relay when I get daylight again. Thanks.

Bought a used 2003 in 2015. Talked the guy down some since the dash did not light up at all. When I checked every dash lamp was burnt out. If one is still working then the power is there for all of them. Buy some lamps and pull out the dash. They are easy to replace.

Has anyone tried installing the LED lights for the dash? I've seen a few sites selling them, just wandering if anyone did install some. Also is it worth it, and how does it look...

Jinglesmell1334, I did this in my old Torino and didn't like it because they were so much more intense that each light was an uneven bright spot in the dash. I replaced them with normal bulbs.

After you change your bulbs roll your dimmer to max and then back it off till the bulbs start to dim a little. That'll reduce the voltage to the bulbs and make them last longer.

You didn't have a voltage surge like an alternator regulator failure did you??
