Ok, probably a v stupid question, but in my 12 it was easy to lock the keys in the truck and use door combination to open the cab - in my new 2017 it knows the keys are in the truck and won't let me lock the truck with the keys inside.
If you have the proximity sensor key fob, you'll prematurely drain the battery in it with it always in the truck. When that happens, you're truck won't start.
99% of the time I leave my keys in the door pocket. Use the key pad to lock and unlock. No, pulling on the door handle will not unlock it. I hate carrying my keys and it makes its easy to leave them in the truck
Get an RFID blocker pouch and put your fob in it. I got one and the truck won't acknowledge the fob as long as it's inside that pouch ... won't unlock or start. eBay search for "fob blocker" or "faraday" & similar.
I did this all summer camping, never an issue. You must lock with the keypad though as above. Cant just push an internal lock button and shut the door, as then it will pop up the locks as you shut the door. Make sure you know your code :-)
That door keypad is a major bonus for owning a Ford. So happy they have stuck with this over all these years. I used that keypad several times a day and it always works. Genious.
Get hooked on it. Then go to a GM vehicle and you will really wish you still had the Ford.
I love this feature. Did you know that if you remove the console mat under the driver' side cup holders and then remove the second mat there is a little cut out to stash your car key? Pretty cool little feature that I found by accident...

That's not a place to "stash" your car key. That's where you place your fob if the fob battery is dead so you can still actually start the car...and also where you place a new fob during reprogramming.

To be more exact -
It's actually for programming an Intelligent Access key, vs. just a fob. If your truck doesn't have a push to start button, this is a perfectly acceptable place to stash a spare key.
