1986 F150 wire harness
#31
Just got thinking of something.
I don't know as I did not look into this, both on my truck used gauges.
I wonder if the plug for the gauge cluster is different between gauges or lights?
It maybe the same type of plug but some of the wire pin outs on the plug may be different?
Something to keep in mind when looking.

The plug for the idiot-light cluster is the same physical style but has fewer wires/connections (and is oriented vertically IIRC as opposed to the horizontal mounting of the gauges cluster).
This is as I remember it, this used to be a well-documented topic but many pictures have gone away at this point.

My plan is to get the earlier harness along with a gauge panel, starter solenoid, A/C box (under the hood), A/C controls, fuse boc, etc all out of one truck. I've run in to plugs being different on stuff before so I'm going to be extra care full on parts selection.
Dave, what color are the wires that are cut? I have wiring diagrams. Maybe I can help you.

Now I could be wrong on what the post said the brown wires go to as no one could find them and I have not dug deeper into it just yet.
I thank you for looking into it.

Kind of sort of,
Do they have male/female plugs and plug together like in this picture?
If so that is how a Non-AC harness it wired. Picture is of my Non-AC harness.
Now when the factory installed AC they would un-plug the 2 wires and plug in the AC wiring harness into them.
This picture shows the AC harness plugged into the 2 wires.
Now what I don't know and cant make out from this link, page 100 (my color of cut wires) page 101 (not my colors on the blower switch)
Component Testing - ???Gary's Garagemahal
Did the AC harness have it's own blower switch plug and the factory Non-AC fan switch plug was left unplugged?
If so then why in the link do the 2 plugs have different shapes?
So if you have AC what was plugged into the 2 plugs in your hand and what color are the wires & shape of the blower switch plug?

If you can check on the shape & color and numbers of the wires in it.
I ask because mine is not "L". More like a square with the top corners trimmed at about a 45*
In the picture below the gray plug at the front is what it would look like but that one is for the duel tanks. The gray one behind the brown plug is for the blower and has the right color wires based on the link on Garys site page 101.
That site shows my brown wires on page 100 in a square plug but I don't know where it plugs into?

Ok so that is the plug/wires to the blower switch as the colors look to match mine behind that brown plug and to Gary's link.
You didn't see another plug in that area with the brown/white wires did you?
From the link page 100 there is a plug with the color wires and looks to be for the AC but I don't know where it plugs into?
Right now I could beat the guy for cutting the wires because of this.
Thanks

ps did you have anything plugged into them brown/orange wires that were in your hand not plugged together?
