Low tension rings were to reduce drag and block wear. Not sure why the switch to metric rings but as they're thinner probly to reduce drag too. To us the reduction in block wear was a blessing, most you find today have little to no wear in the bores
I am looking piston rings can somebody tell me what the thicknesses are because I’ve bought the ones from autos one and none of them fit in the grooves in my piston
I’m sure nothing is wrong. I’m a rookie to inside motor. I’m 50 years old Electrician by trade and worked in maintenance facilities all my working career. I’m a dang good parts swapper lol. I had just never been inside motor. I’m learning as I go. Competent I am. Just the unknown. Using any resource to help out. I have chosen one only problem is I can’t seem to just buy one set of rings for one piston in this particular case from Rock-auto.
Don't feel bad, I am a 61 yr old with lots of mechanical experience and lots of engine rebuilding under my belt and it took me 3 tries at rings until I figured it out. Worst thing is that they sell both SAE and Metric for the same year engines. After 3 sets not fitting (and sellers not even telling me there was a metric version) I finally found one seller that had both listed in the same listing and said I must say which size when ordering.
I know this is super old. But people still read it. Thanks for the help

I have a 1995 f150 5.8. I was told I need a stock piston ring. In a 4in ring. They won't tell me any other info. It has a 88yr block from the factory. I think I found the same part as listed above. Is this the part I need also?
