Lmc rear disc brake conversion kit for 78 - 79 F100

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has ever used the LMC rear disc brake conversion for a 78- 79 f100? If so any input to how well it work and the ease of installation would be great

Cheers

Hi Aussie,
I've been wondering about the disc conversion myself, so I think I'll follow your post to see what comes up.

I'd like to add, or ask, that I was wondering why can't I just buy a rear axle set up from a newer year truck with disc brakes already on it, I mean wouldn't it still fit on my older 1979 F150 2WD ?

LMC rear disc conversion

Hi BaltomoJoe,

I have no idea why they wont fit from a newer truck matey. I have heard of people do some concersion with gm parts i think but since i am in Australia parts are hard to find. Lol thats why i was hoping one of you lucky Americans who have all the best parts going around had used the LMC conversion or something similar before i pay the large delivery feeto bring it over.

Don't quote me on this but I think everything would work from a newer model except for the e brake.

I've researched rear disk setups a lot for my 79, plan to use it for heavy towing. Every review for every kit I've found has mentioned that they are not bolt-on kits. Even though they all claimed to be, each kit still needs some level of modification to make it fit. Some required so much modification the users wished they just started from a piece metal and made their own. Less hassle and cheaper.

This is an excellent guide to cheap brake upgrades. Front brake upgrade, booster upgrade, rear disk brake upgrade, and other modifications. Some of the parts and links are no longer available but similar parts are still out there if you look.

Thanks for that matey that was a really good read. I was already looking at the f350 brake booster as the one i have now is gone. That article has given me a lot more info on how to do it.

Cheers again bud

howdy!
I had the same problem when doing research for my 73 f250 Camper special I'm upgrading everything and that's on the list
The solution I found is from a site TSM.MFG
Find your truck (mine is the Dana 60) they have bolt on caliper brackets with calipers with and without parking brakes.
but for me I'm going for the dual caliper brackets they make so I can have juice brakes on the front set and mechanical calipers for a parking brake on the rear bracket

I don't even have power brakes on my 79. built year is 79. Would I need to get a brake booster off an f350 also or just off an f150? and what about the master cylinder?

I would go ahead and get the booster and master from a 350. I believe the master is the same for 150-350 though.

I reckon i will try the 350 brake booster and master cylinder. This may be a dumb question but can anyone tell me why the 1978 f350 dual calipers cant be used on the 78 f100? I havent seen a dual caliper setup before....

I wasn't aware it had dual calipers. Are you sure it's not just a dual piston calliper? I've only ever seen dual calipers on the rear end of drift cars.

It think you COULD, but it is not as simple as swapping just the calipers. The dual piston ones are much longer and you would have to swap the mounting bracket, which I think means swapping the whole knuckle and thus I-beam and springs, etc.

mmmm that sounds like too much of a pain in the rear end really so i will stick to the single puston caliper. I have heard that you can use a 95 explorer master cylinder instead fo the f350 one. Can anyone verify this and if so does anyone have a part number?

Cheers guys
