How do you get them? What's the secret? They're too smart to come out into a field during the daytime.I've tried sitting for hours on the ground,on tree stumps,in tree stands, walking slow and a combination of both.At the edge of fields, thickets, apple trees, etc.I've tried deer calls, doe sent and even tried running out of frustration when I was younger lol!
We can't bait them,we can't use dogs.We can't get together to drive them. How the heck do people get a nocturnal animal during the day without aid? I don't get it.I've seen a few over the years of course even got off a few shots but just seeing a buck is as rare as hens teeth and when you do,it's usually not for very long and already on the run before you can raise your rifle.I don't understand. So many years gone by now, clearly there's something I'm doing way wrong. The vast majority of deer hunting seasons,I don't even so much as even jump a deer.Doe or buck. The few seasons where I've gotten an any deer permit, has always been the time when I've never even seen a doe lol. This is beyond bad luck.I mean I totally and completely suck as a deer hunter.I don't understand it.

Tracking. (Year round.) Stands. Game Cams. (Not necessary, but it pinpoints what/where/when the deer or other critters are around.)
The 10 pointer my brother took this year, he had on camera for months, been chasing all season, archery on. Before the rut he was only coming in early morning (4am-ish) or late night (11pm-ish.) Soon as the rut hit, BAM....7am, pissed off and aggressive as hell he responded to a buck grunt, BAM.
One of the smaller bucks just happened to pop out of the woods 7-10 yards in front of my other brother as he was sitting on a rock wall, tired from stalking all day. It had been windy so besides the stand being sketchy, it was cold as hell. So he had decided to walk around to warm up, and 2 minutes after he say down luck (and the wind) favored him and BAM. Dropped his first buck.

FORDF250HDXLT don't feel like your all alone, I got skunked this year too. But then again I only went out once and that was for 3 hours... I look at dear every morning in the field in front of my house but will not shoot any of them... I'd rather watch them then shoot them. But the ones out in the back 40 are fair game if I get one in my sights.
