Reversing leaf springs

So, I'm sure this won't work, but came up with this idea.

How come you can't take a rear leaf spring and put it together backwards? As in take the short ones from the bottom of the arch and move them to the top to get a drop. Why would this not work? I can't find anything and I don't know enough about it to see issues. Would they just bind up when trying to compress I guess?

Just dawned on me, then the clamps holding the pack together would be taking all of the force and probably fail

Exactly.
But there is also the variable of the spring being upside down and one end attached to the chassis and the other end attached to the axle with the center fulcrum point (shortest leaf) pivoting on a chassis pad. Some older trucks did this on the rear.
