Grey water is an issue, not only because of dissolved fat from food, but also as the soap acts as a fertilizer when broken down. It's never harmless. Of course, the occasional dump may be ok, but if everybody does it...

Dumping the grey water tank isn't always illegal. I'm pretty careful about what goes down my drains. I have a screen on the kitchen sink drain to ensure that food particles are caught. My use of soap is minimal to ensure that rinsing is also kept to a minimum.

Here's an article published this year on the topic: https://rvtravel.com/more-on-the-gra...the-gray-tank/

In my recent 10 day stay at elk camp this month I did not dump my grey water tank, but only because the valve was frozen.

Is it gray or grey? as long as it is a color not a colour lol

I have read about adding a pump to the gray tank and using that water to flush the toilet. saves on fresh water and keeps the gray less full.

I have 5 tanks:
2 fresh
1 black
1 gray shower and bathroom sink
1 galley kitchen sink

What are the rules on using an outside shower? We hose off the muddy or sandy kids outside.

You could also use a composting toilet and turn the black tank into another gray/grey tank.

As for an outside shower, there is only 1 rule when boondocking and that is don't get water in the beer.

I have a 100gal. fresh water 40-40 black and gray. 99 percent dry camping. My wife and myself when it comes to showers we will turn on the shower get wet turn off the shower leather up and then rinse off. We have went 9 days in the past before having to dump and refill. Our normal trips are approx. 5 to 7 days, one shower each a day. I do all my cooking outside, we also use paper plates with plastic utensils to keep the dish washing down. You need to find ways to limit your water usage, conserve.

Same here. If I'm washing pots/pans already then I'll wash the plasticware but the plates, bowls, cups go in the trash. It kills me to go back home with 6 bags of trash but I would rather have enough water to take care of business.

Oh come on just 3 kids? We have 4; 3 girls, 1 boy. Haven't filled the tanks yet, but so far 3 days is about all we stay put. 47g fresh, 30 grey, 28 black. I like the idea of a 36' trailer, but we usually just eat or sleep in the trailer, not exactly shut in it all the time. Except for that one time it rained 2 days and we watched movies inside n board games n such. So the 25' fits us well. I second the extra blue tank, nice knowing we'll have it if we need it.
