There it is folks. I could not believe what I saw. The truck is my 2016 Ford F-250 XLT 6.7L CCSB geared with 3.55s on LT275/65R20s. Folks, let me start off with an apology to those who I called out upon in past posts claiming 20 MPGs. Let me preface this by saying my ownership of a 3/4 ton pickup dates as far back as September of 2011. My previous truck a 2007 F-250 XLT 6.0L CCSB geared with 3.73s was a truck I loved (and my better half had been bugging me for years to get into, to replace my Crown Victoria), but could never achieve any better than 12 MPGs on a good day. Quite honestly, I could care less. My thinking has always been, and always will be that fuel is one of the costs of the ticket or put into better words, the price to pay for the privilege vehicle ownership. And in my years of owning/driving vehicles I have never been one to let fuel prices or rate of fuel consumption dictate what I choose to drive. Lots would argue this to be an ill advised way of thinking. That said, when I first took possession of my previous truck I KNEW what I was getting into. I KNEW, not to expect that fuel economy was going to be anywhere near what is usually on par with what my better half's four cylinder Ford Focus would achieve doing normal routine city driving.....until today. The 3rd picture above tells all. This is the number I achieved from fill up for a weekend outing on a two and a half hour drive on a two lane highway mostly. Average speed during the majority of the drive was between 90 to 100 km/h (50 to 60 mph) with engine RPMs mostly between 1200 to 1500 as the picture above shows. The first two pictures were taken at the conclusion of our weekend getaway, illustrating distance driven from fill up and distance remaining to empty. To say those numbers above are AWESOME is an understatement! 521 kilometers driven from fill up (and remember my truck is a CCSB with the ridiculously small fuel tank) and I'm at more than 3/8 just under 1/2 of a tank. Usually at I'm at less than an 1/8 of a tank when I've driven just over 400 and change kilometers. So folks, the point of this post is, 20+ MPGs IS possible in a 3/4 ton 4x4 8000 lbs truck equipped with a turbocharged V8 engine displacing approximately 412 cubic inches.

 

Nice! I regularly got 20-21 with a 76 mile daily commute. Haven't seen that since I retired as it is now shorter trips and towing.

 

 

I had 2200 miles of mostly interstate driving for work last week between 3 separate locations, all about 3 hours (200 miles) apart, so there was a good averaging of elevation and wind. With the cruise set on 80, I would average mid 19's, cruise on 72 I was right at 21. These are very versatile trucks, and can operate under various loading conditions, but fuel economy and brake and tire wear can vary drastically as those conditions change. I find it interesting that your odometer records metric units, but fuel economy is calculated in english units.

 

I would like to break 18 MPG. To get 22 MPG would be nirvana. I'm happy that I get 9 MPG towing my trailer.

 

 

If you work for it with great road conditions, it's possible. 22.1 MPG is the record on my truck empty when it was new around 5,000 miles with OEM Continental's but this was near perfect driving conditions at 50-54 MPH (1,100 RPM in sixth), for anyone familiar with the Natchez Trace Parkway. During this time, high 15's were typical for my daily commuting. Recently I'm averaging low 12 MPG daily driving. I've lost 1 MPG due to various firmware updates over the years and the remaining loss are my fault due to items that add up, which we'll refer to as improvements (mud flaps, useful to me tires, heavy front bumper). I'm sure a plugged EGR isn't helping my low MPG numbers either but that'll get resolved in a few weeks.
