Please help is you can, No Spark.
Hi everyone, I am new here, so I guess this is kind of my intro as well as my first post. I am in the process of buying a used 1996 Ford F-250 XLT crewcab pickup truck, it has a 460 CI 7.5 Liter V8 Engine and fuel Injection.
$500, I have to get it running though to drive it off the lot.
In my attempt to get it running I replaced
the cap and rotor,
Replaced TFI ignition module
Replaced the coil
checked fuses, fusible links, etc, wiring
Bought a Haynes Manual for the truck
Jumped it off of my '77 Ford Ranchero, and charged the battery. (Battery is bad) needs replaced, but I am using my jump start box and my Ranchero.
I am thinking it is a problem with the pickup coil inside the distributor. how do I narrow it down. I have no spark.
I am using my timing light to test for spark, The timing light does work, I tested it on my 77 Ranchero. it does light up when it senses a spark, but no spark on the F-250. What else could cause it to have no spark?
Repeating.
New ignition module
New Coil
new cap and rotor
Please give me a clue here because I am completely lost. going out tomorrow to work on it some more, but at this point if it is not the Distributor pickup coil I am scratching my head and drawing circles in the sand.. maybe playing some tic-tac-toe..
Any help is greatly appreciated. Also if you know the firing order that would be great to know as well as when they put the new cap and rotor on and then took it off I don't know if they got it right at the dealership. They have told me that they know nothing about engines, yet they did that. I put the new Cap and rotor on with the plug wires on the new cap exactly the way they were on the old cap I took off. I don't know if they had it right. I am frustrated with this.
Thank you all so very much for your replies and assistance if you can provide it!
I will be thumbing through my Haynes manual for now..
Okay.. No worries on this one, I have figured out the problem. The Coil inside of the distributer was the culprit. Changed it and the Truck sprang to life. Rough Idle though, Throwing codes PO174, PO171 PO400
I am trying to get the EGR off, but it is welded to the exhaust inlet. Still looking for help on this one.
