Explorers reliable or bad news???

Hey all you Explorer guys & girls! Have always been an F150 man for many years and am thinking of a 2016 V6 Explorer first time purchase as a second vehicle. Are these any good and as reliable as a Ford pickup or is an Explorer bad news that will bring me headaches???

Good and bad comments appreciated. Lay it on me.

Probably one of the most problem free vehicles out there. I would say more problem free than an F150.

My wife loves hers, I like it too.

Actually, my sports car driver wife wore them out

Leased it initially and liked it so much we bought it @ end of lease.

I loved my 2014 Sport. And then I didn't. It had a lot of good things going for it and I never had a repair in the 3 years I owned it. Having said that, I traded it for a 2017 F150 because:
I found the seats to be incredibly uncomfortable on long trips.
The ridiculous, under 6 inch ground clearance meant I couldn't even pull up to a parking lot wheel stop without damage to the front air dam. They cost $265 to buy and are a PITA to replace. Ask me how I know.
And finally, I couldn't take the phony piped-in through the audio system engine sounds any more.
But I did love it otherwise.
I just love my F-150 a whole lot more.

We have a 14 Limited with 20" wheels and they make more road noise than I think they should. It's also a little hard to see out, lots of big obstructions. And you do sit low. With 45,000 miles on it I am considering dumping it. Very reliable though.

Another problem !
Now I'm really getting rid of it - a headlight bulb burned out !?! after only 89k miles

but, bought some silverstars to see if it helps a bit...

We have a 2013 (first year of the new model) and I have to say,for a first year model, not to bad! Very few repairs and vehicle now has 114,000 on it with very few issues. Just replaced the first HO2 Sensors (Heated O2) and we are told if it had not been under extended warranty its a nearly $500 part. That seems like a scam however.

Thought I would drag this back to present to say, although there was nothing wrong with it, no one in the family really liked the Explorer (2014 Limited). So, I traded it for a Expedition and can say, other than fuel mileage, it is far superior.
Explorer was too low, touch screen distracting, hard to see out of, excessive road noise, etc. Again, nothing wrong with it and was perfectly reliable, but glad to see it go. Test drive thoroughly before writing the check.

We're looking at downsizing to an Explorer from the 04 Expy for my wife. She needs a vehicle that is a bit lower as she's had both knees replaced. Sounds like a very reliable vehicle

I did the same thing to accommodate my mother. After she broke her femur and had a lengthy hospital stay I thought the Explorer would be easier for her to enter/exit. Not so, actually much harder to get in and out than the Expedition. The door sill on the Explorer is high with a deep set floorboard. It makes it difficult for her to lift her leg over the sill without help. I'm planning on replacing my '16 Explorer Platinum for a new Expedition sometime next year. No other gripes about the Explorer, it's an excellent vehicle.

Good info, thank you sir. We'll be testing a slew of vehicles over the next few months to see which is the better fit for her. Truth be told, if I have my way, I'll get her into a Subaru Outback.
