Is this not a defect? My local dealership charged me $360 (+tax) to fix this issue in my 2013 F150 . . .

Ask the dealer to break down the costs. I did it in about an hour and the kit is $20.

Time shouldn't matter. Have seen so many others with this issue that is clearly a defect and Ford should cover the cost of the repair :-(

    tstobb - Time shouldn't matter. ...
Given that it's a $30 (retail) part, the shop time is less than an hour, and you paid $360, IMO it sure as hell is.

"tstobb" I agree it is a "defect", but it's not a "recall"
Unfortunately Ford did not make this a Recall, which means the a**clowns will not fix your truck for free,
they make it your responsibility to fix their screw up

Oh yes it does, as your TOTAL cost should be less than $100

Same here (bought online) I would never pay Ford to fix their mistake

I consider it a defect but it's probably not happening to enough trucks to force a recall. I did the fuse upgrade to my truck because I didn't want to find out if it was going to be a problem while I'm in a remote area.

Wonder how many are having this done as a preventive measure? I bought the Motorcraft repair kit on line ($16) and my mechanic charged $100 labor to do the work. If Ford is only counting those that end up at a dealership with this problem, they may be missing many of us.

There are also plenty with odd failures that end up being the lower end of this fuse melted. Fuel pumps and relays being replaced are becoming common before the real issue is diagnosed. There may be some other electrical problems related to this fuse starting to melt through the fuse box.

In my mind, it is a manufacturer defect and should be a recall. There is plenty potential for this to also be a safety defect when power to the fuel pump fails and the engine dies. NHTSA has some reports on the problem.

I did mine as a preventive measure, and mine is a 3.7 v6.

The $15 online kit price and less than an hour start/finish was some of the best insurance I've ever bought.

I could do it again for $5 worth of off the shelf parts and less than 30 minutes.

Anybody that reads the forums has no right to complain about the issue or the cost the dealer charges. It's a known issue that can be prevented for the cost and time of a lunch.

    Ford charged over $1300.00

For a as designed factory defect, had to pay over $1300.00 to replace the fuel pump and replace fuse and fuse relocate kit!

Truck engine stopped and wouldn’t crank. Called dealership they said it was just a computer glitch, it happens sometimes. Finally restarted and operated fine for a couple weeks. Then engine stopped again on it’s own and would not restart. Pulled battery cables to reboot computer modules, checked battery connections, would crank but not start. Seemed to be sensor or fuel. Had truck towed to dealership and they said bad fuse, fuel pump and had to replace and relocate fuse.

Ford defective design and instead of doing the right thing, it was better financially for Ford to TSB instead of recall.

Better the CUSTOMER PAY for Ford Design Defects!

I mistakenly took it to my dealer because I also had the takata airbag recall as well and i figured two birds one stone. $323 later i'm seeing I could of done this myself in probably a half hour... Also frustrated it took them a week to just get my truck in to look at what was wrong when they kept telling me they could get to it that afternoon or tomorrow, and the extended warranty was no help because the defective is technically a consumable.

Don't think I'm going back to the dealership again.

Good luck finding another Ford dealer that you might can trust. I ran out of them in my area. The Toyota, Nissan and especially Honda dealers have a much better reputation. Even RAM maybe. Don't want to buy any of these at this point, but it is one more thing in their favor. And it is something to consider. Ford needs to try to rein their dealers in on over-pricing and up-selling. It is hurting the Ford brand.

I learned long ago, regardless of brand: one trip, one job. Never combine needs, seems managers get confused if the vehicle has to go to more than one person for something. Then the paperwork nightmare and overcharging and fistfights begin and everyone goes home pissed off. Ever been charged $50 b/c the vehicle simply got moved from one service bay to another?

My experience is not good for ANY dealership. They are constantly looking for nonwarrranty work to perform . They will make things up on the basis of "we performed a safety inspection and found......." Occasionally you will find a good service writer but they don't last long if they are honest I use a really good ASE mechanic shop that I trust.
