Question on disc brake hardware kit items

Hi Folks,

I had to order a disc brake hardware kit for my '84 F150, and my question is on the little tin clip-on spring in the bottom of the picture. Can anybody tell me where this goes? Sorry if this is a dumb question...and maybe it's not even used on my truck, but I didn't see any on there when I took the brakes off.

OK, that makes sense...the outer pads on my truck are a bit loose, and while I don't notice them "rattle", they do make a click sound sometimes when changing direction (slowly). The truck overall has enough rattles that noisy pads would be the very least of my concerns, but I am eliminating the rattles, one at a time.

OK, very good, thank you. I'm planning to reassemble everything this weekend, so I'll see how it all goes together. I really needed the "key" for one side, and the long spring for the other, so I didn't even know I needed these anti-rattle clips.

Thanks again.

Very nice! I'm cleaning mine up as well...but it will never been a show-quality ride as far as I'm concerned.

Rembrant this is far from show quality and far from what I normally do for restoration work, I just want to clean it up and put back on the road.

I don't suppose anybody has a picture of where the spring clip goes?

The long one or the short one for the pad?

The long between caliper & the locking bar.
The little one fits in the piston of the caliper and pushes on the pad to keep it tight to the caliper.

To tell the truth I forgot they were used as both my trucks did not have them and has been a long time since I had seen them being used.

I'm OK with the long one...that's one of the reasons I bought the kit in the first place. One of the long ones was broken in two on my truck, and one of the "keys"? was mushroomed on each end, so I needed one of those as well.

Ok, so it clips inside the piston then?

OzEconoline said above that it clips on the inner brake pad...

My front brakes DO "click" when applied the first time after changing directions...I assumed it was the outer pad. The inner pad fits in the channel in the spindle pretty snugly.

It could fit the pad and them snaps into the piston it has been a long time since I used them.
Wished I had one so I could show you as I have calipers/pads off the truck but I don't have the springs and don't plan on buying them.

ps can you post a picture of that spring on its side?
I want to say the 2 fingers may fit into holes on the pad and the loop fits into the piston with the 1 finger pushing on the piston.

Well, I just found this thread linked below, and it shows a picture of said clip, and it's on the bottom ear of the inside pad...

Pad and Rotor replacement on Dana 44 by Boss - Ford Bronco Forum

It's on a 4x4 I know, but the caliper appears to be the same...or at least mounted the same.

I guess I can try it like that and see how it works...
