Wife n daughter broke the van side door...

Women, who needs 'em? Other than sustaining our race and providing cute kids, well, sandwiches too, and, em, marital pleasures....who needs em?

Well my missus and our daughter decided to pull on the door handle and push on the lock button at the same time. POP went the cable. The inside handle has been inop since I bought the van, so, the Mythic Church Van suddenly has only 4 working doors. Because of women.

Well, perhaps that second cable was as brittle as the first, and woulda broke on ME the next time I opened the door. Yeah that's it. Gotta keep peace in the home.

But MCV is now at our mechanic's place. I pulled the interior panels and did my best to get the latch open. But I don't know where to pull, and I'm tall with big ole hands. What's needed is a little guy with iron fingers to open that latch, so the door will open, and they can then replace both cables.

I may be ranting. I was so sad to leave MCV at the mechanic. So sad that I gave him a 7-point list of other things to check out too.

I was ranting. But there is a question.

Given that both side door cables broke, shouldn't I replace the rear door cables before they break too?

Or just go ahead and clip the rear door cables. Then it will be most difficult for people to escape.

Yeah the back ones will go soon if the side ones did. There is an oddball long one that I still can't find for the drivers rear door.

Replace all. The cables aren't broken, the plastic housings are the problem. I bought these new from Rock Auto. They come in paired sets for the doors. They're a bitch to replace, but can be done yourself. You'll need torx drivers to remove the latch mechanisms to gain access to remove and install them. I did my rear door first then the side door later, the side door went easier. Also you'll need a pair of needlenose pliers to help getting the cable sleeves seated

Yes indeed, it's not the cable, it's the craplastic ends that Ford puts on there.
