2005 6.0 Heavy Tow build - What do I need?
So my stock 6.0 blew up at 187k miles towing up the Asheville Mountain grades towing our 16k lb 5th wheel. It had a new EGR cooler at 150k.
Its at the shop now - and this is what they are recommending:
Upper Engine Gasket Kit OEM
ARP Headstuds 250-4202
Injector O-ring kit
Stand Pipe Kit
Blue Spring Mod
8 Glow Plugs <- I have been getting glow plug codes....
Oil Pressure Sensor
Degas Bottle Cap <- I want a whole new bottle, mine is all yellow.
Thermostat
Engine Oil Cooler
EGR "Reroute"
Oil change
Fuel Filters
Machining of Heads
if I'm going to spend the billion dollars on this, I want to do it right. Unfortunately I still owe some money on it, so setting it on fire and walking away is not a good option, though...tempting.
What else do I need?
The shop mentioned water pump, since they were there, and I think I'd like to have the EGT tap/sensor installed. I'm also going to do 8 new injectors since I know I have at least 3 suspect ones.
I tow heavy weekly. 16k+ Lbs. I am ALWAYS TOWING. Reliability is key here. I kept the engine stock and figured it could handle the loads...i was sadly wrong...We got 30k miles out of it.
As I'm studding, I'd like to add some power, and simply NOT WORRY ABOUT the damn engine anymore (I can watch temps) . What else should I do?

Sorry to hear about your engine.
Radiator, upper and lower hoses. New upper a given with thermostat swap.
Turbo rebuild.
STC if not already done.
If fan removed, fan clutch and front main seal are easy to access. May swap LPOP regulator out too.
Consider a 6.4 trans pan swap?
FICM overhaul?
IPR replacement?
Interested in final job scope and cost if you'll report back. Good luck.

My thought here is I lost a enough coolant into the EGR that it was simply low on coolant.
When we got to the campsite I noted it the degas was empty, and put a gallon(!!!!) of coolant in it and went..."uh-oh". Next day, I called a shop to have them look at it, and it was basically hydro-locked - barely started and was billowing smoke. Ran on like 4 cylinders until it warmed up. Smoked out the entire campground with coolant. Made it to the shop and it was running ok , but hottish for just 40mph on a road for 4-5 miles - like 220ECT.
They reported 26PSI in the cooling system.
