Can't find the right shift collar
Hello,
I came looking for a shift collar/bowl part number for a 3 speed auto. And I found this.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...find-part.html
(Thanks NumberDummy!)
I've been looking for D9TZ 7228 A but they don't seem to quite match. The ones I found don't have the gear selection indicator ***. My broken one has the indicator built in. Anyone know where I could find on with the indicator on it?
Edit: The D9TZ 7228 A has a notch for it, but none seem to be built in.

The original part number for the 70's shift collar did have a built in shift indicator. The replacement D5TZ7228A came with a indicator that slide in a slot in it.
DC at www.dennis-carpenter.com carries the shift collar you want under their part number C9TZ7228A.

D5TZ-7228-A (replaced C5TZ-7228-A & C9TZ-7228-A) .. A/T Shift Collar Kit / Ford just obsoleted it.
1965/77 F100/350 & 1973/77 Bronco & Econoline.
This kit includes D3TZ-7A110-A .. Plastic Pointer. This collar has a slot in it for the pointer to slip into. See pic of pointer in post #4.
1965/72 shift collars have a metal pointer made as part of it (see pic below). Pic of 1973/77 collar in post #6.
1978/79 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline use different shift collars than 1965/77: D9TZ-7228-A = Use with tilt wheel; D9TZ-7228-B = Use with fixed steering column.

Redneck hack alert!
If your shift collar doesn't have the pointer and you don't want to spend the money and go to all the trouble of replacing it, here's the quick and dirty solution for a daily driver (but not for a show truck!).
While the selector is in PARK, note on the current collar where an indicator would be indicating P and lightly tap with a center punch about 3/16" behind the PRNDL. Get a small diameter machine threaded set screw (#6 or #8) about 1/2" long, the kind with the allen hex in the end and paint it red or orange. Then drill and tap a hole in the collar to receive the set screw with some LocTite thread sealer on it. Screw it in, and voila! you're PRNDLing properly!

Oops
Another thing to think about: You might also want to replace the turn signal switch while you're in there. 50 year old plastic is brittle and I ended up braking it putting it back in
I have a 70 and believe this is the one D0TZ-13341-B: Turn Signal Switch | Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts

One last question:
The shift tube came loose while I was working on it, so I pulled it out to clean it and put fresh grease on the end. About 2/3 of the way down the tube, there is a clip on it. The clip was flimsy and broke. I cant seem to find the piece on DC, anyone know what this is or what it does? Does it help hold the spring in?
