Is this an AOD transmission?

It looked like F9 to me
[QUOTE=matthewq4b;17528511]the E9DP case is an AOD case.
So yes it is an AOD.[/QUOTE
I have a follow up question, was the AOD ever a computer controlled trans? I took my truck to a transmission shop because it wasn't shifting when it should and sometimes it skips a gear. He was trying to tell me it was because the trans was originally computer controlled. Sometimes it shifts properly and sometimes it feels like it goes from 2nd to 4th way to soon. I thought I would mess with the kick down linkage to see if it helps.

No the AOD was never computer controlled. The later AODE was the computer controlled version, it came out in 1992. I suggest you find another trans shop cause that bunch obvious has no clue what they are doing when it comes to the AOD.
Setting the TV cable has to be done correctly failing to do so can crater the trans in time.

I just printed out the instructions from the link. It looks there's more to it than just a quick cable adjustment. Looks like i need to add a gage to the tool box also. Thanks again Matthew. I wont be going back to that trans shop. When we were doing an evaluation ride he said they only work on GM. I think he just wanted to drive my truck. They are the only trans shop in town, i guess ill have to go to the next town over if i need any more advise, or just come back to FTE.

Hi 56 George,
I would recommend going slowly into the AOD adjustment process.
A very small adjustment in that cable can cause large changes in pressure
and crater your transmission in a matter of miles (ask how I know).
You can also buy different shift kits for AOD's if you don't like the shift points.... or change over to a solid throttle body & go from there.
There are also upgrades you can make to your AOD to withstand more HP. We upgraded our clutch pack & went with a 2 inch overdrive belt made from Kevlar. Not all AOD's are the same .... you really want one that came from a V8. Recommend you drive around in "D" under 45 mph around town - switching over to "O'' Overdrive for highway cruising. Go lightly on that shift into Overdrive...common to drop the overdrive belt with hard shifting.
I like the AOD but it's a sensitive beast. We couldn't get our shift points right until we found an old trans guy who knew what he was doing. We've got 30K miles on our's..
Good luck over there in Michigan!

Ben would love to see pics of your rig, as I'm looking at doing 49 M68 with a 351W and AOD down the road.

Ha I think we have all been there getting carried away with HP once or twice on a project.
A buddy of mine says " you can NEVER have too much power, just not enough control" lol
It's so true, and applies to much in life as well
