any help with determining curb weight

I would like to get some curb weights of trucks if you can, diesel and gas CCSB, CCLB, Lariat, KR Platinum. per ford see below, gas CCLB is 6989. I went on the scales with my Lariat Ultimate with B&W oem ford puck hitch 150# my wife and I combined 500# I am the heavy one 6'3" 350. also had 1/2 tank gas and the goose hitch attachments and the weight was 7860 - those will drop me to 7210. - 189 for gas 32 lbs over the curb. which gives me 4290 cargo. Fords numbers don't jive to me.

also the rear axle rating is 7230# and the tires supplied have payload rating of 3640 per tire which exceeds the rear axle rating 7280

I believe curb weight includes a full tank of fuel.

350 CC LB 6.7 diesel, lariat ultimate am right at 8,000 lbs with full 50 gallon tank and 205 lb driver. Only some minor tools in the under seat storage. My old 2005 CC SB diesel was 8780 lb with smaller fuel tank and me, same weight roughly. 800 lb difference, I have right at 3900 lb pay load max.

what is bugging me is the tire and loading sticker 3936 which is 500 lbs below the capacity of the truck which is 11500 minus curb weight 4440. Goodyear and Michelin have their tire rated at or above the axle rating so the tire is not the week point in the rating

Check the top of the GAWR column, and then see note "(3)" at the bottom of the original document page. The GAWR is based on the WR for the lowest-rated components (axle, tires, springs, wheels). I suspect the 7230 lbs. GAWR is based on the spring specs.

However, something is amiss here, as a pair of 18" or 20" wheels are rated at 2 x 3590 lbs. = 7180 lbs. See eSourcebook Specs page 61.

I believe the published curb weight specs include a full tank (industry norm) but are otherwise based on XL trim models with no options. You'll need to factor the weight of all options into your equation. See Note (2) on your sample Weight Rating page.

This may be a stupid question but shouldn't you be able to figure your curb weight by taking payload capacity minus your gvwr?

I have weighed my truck and the curb weight with my truck Lariat ultimate not lacking anything that would add any significant weight is very close to the weight on the list just not getting the sticker with 3936 losing 500 lbs of load

see tire specs

What options do you have? Normally those published numbers are for base model trucks. Each truck has a specific payload depending on options and the payload sticker supersedes any other info.

7840? That seems really heavy for the 6.2. What does your payload sticker say?

Using Ford's numbers, 11,500 GVWR less base XL 6.2 4x4 CCLB model curb weight (6989) = 4511 lbs max load capacity for a "stripped" truck with no upgrades or options. 4511 - 3936 = 575 lbs. "missing" load capacity.

I suspect your 2017 truck's following upgrades and options add up to something close to 575 lbs.:
  • Lariat trim upgrades
  • Lariat ultimate trim option {incl. tailgate step (~38 lbs.?) and the glass moonroof}
  • Chrome Package (includes 2x outside running boards)
  • Gooseneck hitch kit
  • Snowplow / camper package

Jim / crewzer
