No speedo or odometer

My speedo and odometer go out on occasion. Everything works fine but the tranny shifts HARD through all the gears and sometimes the O/D light will flash. When i hit the dash bezel, the speedo and odometer start working and tranny shifts fine again. Some days this doesnt happen and other days it happens multiple times? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The VSS will not make the dash odometer go blank. To the OP, sounds like the programmable speed module in the cluster has something wrong with it. Go to a wrecking yard and get a dash cluster to replace yours, or some have had their PSM repaired, but I don't recall where they sent it.

I pulled the VSS last night and cleaned it as well as the connections. The ring is good as well. Have not thought of replacing the cluster. I was planning to pull the cluster this weekend and check all the connections in the rear of the PSOM, Is there a reputable place to buy one or is it strictly limited to pick and pulls?

Might check on EBay, I see some listed at different times.

Probably a connection problem, especially if you hit the dash and all starts working, do that first. If you replace the PSOM then the mileage from the truck it was from will be your new odometer mileage. Don't believe it's re programmable, but maybe somebody figured out how to do it. If you send it in for repair then it will retain the correct odometer setting.

I did order another cluster from eBay. Going to try that. If it works, I'll run this cluster while mine is sent out and repaired. Once I get mine back I'll just swap it back in. At least that's my plan. Thank you all for info though. It's greatly appreciated!
