A few years ago I talked to a International 7.3L service manager. He indicated that he never had a customer with stock engine (no computer chip) ever come to his site with major engine issues. The only ones were people using chips, towing heavy, with no monitoring on EGT's and pulling hard. It was never the idle time that was the issue.
