Had a 'fella this morning tell me his '01 7.3 CCSB 6" lift on 35s was getting 24 on the interstate and 18 around town with magnaflow exhaust, afe intake and edge. He said his edge is hardwired in and to stay away from the plug in type. My 7.3 just got it's best 15mpg coming home to TX from AL empty yesterday. I've stayed away from tuning so far but thought the edge was the one to avoid. What's y'alls take on this such claim?

 

6" lift 35" tires and 75ish mph does not= 24mpg .

Not even unicorn dust at that point... An outright lie or very uneducated person on how the lie-o-meter works in his truck. If he doesn't have one (not sure if the 01 had that option) and he says it is hand calculated or from the Edge, then he is a bigger liar than our politicians.

I get 18.5 hand calculated and unloaded in my truck, and that is damn good and I am proud of it. Everything is 100% (knock on wood), running on stock size tires and rims at 65 - 70 MPH and a ZF6 manual.

Another great piece of advice he has offered that the "plug in type". If he is referring to the ones that plug into the PCM via the port on the rear of it, then again he is dead wrong. I have to give him the benefit of the doubt and think maybe he was talking about something that plugs into the OBD port.

Those are the type of guys that I just let ramble on if they want to talk and as soon as I see an exit in the conversation, I am gone.

 

My dually has a 4R100 with 4:10 gears and I can get just over 18 MPG, taking it easy.

Consider a 2wd lifted with larger tires plus a 6 speed manual and a 3.54 gear ratio (found in some years), with the right tune, driving gently and keeping it around 50 mph, mostly freeway driving....

Might be possible...

When I want mileage I leave the PowerStroke at home N drive my 1982 VW Rabbit Pickup truck Diesel. Gets 43MPG every day!

Probably reading the MPGs off the overhead display, aka lie-o-meter. Very few people report their overhead display is accurate, always shows high. Plus a tune will mess with that calculation too, stacking the error. Add the lift and 35s... nah.

Basically stock truck in sig, 3.73 gears, best I've ever seen is 19.2 mpg, a flat drive of 300 miles cruise controlled at 63 with OE tires inflated like rocks.

Tunes won't make much difference for MPGs, even with little tricks like DP does with the quick throttle tip in on the go pedal. Biggest factor is the weight of your foot.

 

Mine is always on the low side. 10.8-12.6, when really getting 13-15 hand calculated. After reading these comments, I am assuming his is reading high or he's mixing something not legal everywhere in his Cherrios.

 

I have a edge cts2 scan gage 1999 f350 dually 4x4 auto 410 gears. PO installed a super chips in it. I have 4" turbo back and an s&b cold air with the cts it showed @ 85 kmh 15 to 16 mpg but not for long

 

Bingo. Oversized tires if the speedometer is not corrected in the PCM, plus adding a tuner both throw off the calculation so the lie-o-meter is even less accurate. Challenge him to a 235 mile race after you empty the tank and put exactly 10 gallons in the tank. You don't have to drive fast to win. It would be better to follow behind him the whole time so you can honk and wave as he heads to the shoulder out of fuel.

 

What the hell is an MPG it's GPH lol my best MPG I just got was just over 18 at 55 mph for 650 miles because I was scared to drive faster with the condition of the gearbox. Running with a 4 inch lift on 35's put in stock tune for the drive. Recently captained a vessel at 50 gallons per hour only 37 ft long too bad the client didn't get a DIESEL!

 

My average for Highway is about 16. Around Town... 13. Once, ONLY ONCE, I got 18 coming back from the Beach on a Six Hour Ride at 70 MPH middle of the night, CC Set, about 70*F..... 99 4x4 250 CC A/T w/ DP Tuner. I even double and triple checked the math!

When I drive up north for work in the morning I get between 19-21 constantly. I keep it under 2k rpm and I fill up before I leave town and refill when I arrive using same stations both times and always by hand. Going home however I haul a$$ and get 15-16

 

you could be 24 plus mpg if you start calculation at the ike tunnel and head down to silverthorn and below.. 7% grade for some 10 miles.. a real bitch to come up. This is where a lot of manufactures, ford-chev-ram etc, come to test trucks for pulling. it has a section near the top that is 8% for like a mile just before the tunnel under the Loveland Ski area.. epic area for sure..
