I've said it many times here on the forum..... my MPG suck. It's been like that ever since i bought my truck 12 yrs ago with 84,000 miles on the clock, and there is nothing i can do about it anymore. 2000 f250 4x4. So i just drive it and live with my mileage.
Fresh engine rebuild 20K miles on current engine
New Alliant 160/0 injectors 20K miles on them.
Dorman Up pipes, no leaks
New Back Pressure sensor 20K miles.
New Icp sensor 20k miles
Stock Hpop in good health according to AE
John Wood tranny rebuilt 30K miles ago
Hydra chip on Cody and GH tunes.
And the usual mods.. 6637, frx, oil crossover, hutch/harpoon etc etc.... Aside from a few dents and scratches the truck is 100%
i get between 11.5 - 13 mpg hand calculated ..... city/hwy mix driving.
So, 24 mpg = pixie dust.

Personally if I can even achieve 15 - 20mpg I'm happy as can be and I know these tricks can do 15 relatively easy (relitive being some what subjective here)
my truck is bone stock and I managed to do one fill up during my run from Lexington Ky to Dallas Tx so to me that was a happy moment

I bought my 2001 F-250 with 270k on the clock and I have kept track of every gallon of fuel and every mile driven since I bought it over a year ago.
It is bone stock, specs are in signature line below.
Average mileage:
City: 19+ mpg
Highway: 24+ mpg
Figures calculated on an electronic calculator.
Note also that this was the mileage I got with a fuel leak. I have since repaired the fuel leak, but have not driven it enough to have gotten any updated figures.

When I had the PCM flashed with the Hypermax 300 tune, I gained around 4 MPG. A better than stock intake should help with MPGs too.

This could be a simple matter of him telling the truth. Let me explain a couple scenarios.
I had a kid buy a locker I had in Craigslist a couple years back. He claimed 18 mpg all day long out of his 7.3 SD. I called BS right away. He swore he did. Then I asked him how fast he drives. He told me the truck never sees over 60 mph and he drives it for mileage. It would take him a couple mins to get up to his 60 mph.... I can see getting 18+ mpg driving like that.
A guy with a 6.7 Cummins and a 6 speed, deleted but everything else is stock with his own custom tuning he wrote. Claimed 30 mpg!!!! Immediately I call BS!! His truck is a standard cab long bed 2 wd. He explained that was the best mpg (I don't remember exactly what the number was) that he has ever gotten. He went on a trip by himself and never did over 35 miles an hour in 6th gear on the flats of Michigan!! I don't know how or where you can do 35 mph without stop signs or getting run over anywhere in Michigan but he apparently does. With that being said and my own experience in my Cummins being able to get 20-22 mpg while driving semi realistically I can defiantly see someone who has the time and lives in a place there isn't much traffic being capable of getting ridiculous mpg.
Those mileage claims are from people who do not use their trucks as trucks.

Maybe you'll believe this, maybe not.
In 2002 I had a 2002 F-350 SRW crew cab short bed. It had a 7.3L and a ZF6. I also owned a 1965 American Lafrance pumper truck. My brother had a 1963 American Lafrance ladder truck.
That summer we took both fire trucks from the Detroit area to Syracuse, NY for a national fire engine muster. The fire trucks were governed at 50 MPH. So we drove 600 miles of interstate at 50 MPH. My F-350 did 27 MPG on that trip.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
