claim of 24mpg fact or unicorn pixie dust?

It can be done (minus the lift and tires)!
Vehicle Efficiency Upgrades: 30+ MPG in 2.5ton Commercial Truck: 6 Steps (with Pictures) (yes, it's a diesel)
I remember reading an article years ago about trying to get maximum MPG from a diesel truck. They taped or put covers over most all the openings and custom fabricated a tapered canopy out of PVC and vinyl that went from the back of the cab to the tailgate. They did a lot of the stuff in the link just more professionally along with hypermiling and got 30+mpg IIRC.

When I saw my truck sitting on the lot 10 years ago it spoke to me. Did it say "if you buy me you'll be lucky to get 15mpg"? Nope. It said "I'm a 7.3L and I'll love you forever". So I bought it. The only thing my mpg tells me is that something's wrong when I get less than 13mpg average (unloaded).

inflated fuel mileage claims
These claims pop up every once in a while. Some people actually believe the crazy talk they are spewing.....just the way it goes sometimes.
I get about 16-17 mpg.....been that way for the last 380k miles. No magic...just physics.
Here is an old thread. Check out post #34 where I offered a way for the guy to back up his claim. The offer was not accepted.

Best I ever get is 19.5 unloaded on the interstate, cruising right about 70mph and 2k rpm. In town I get 15-17, depending on the skinny pedal's usage.
I can't remember what thread it was, but supposedly a member here got over 21mpg hand calculated. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Was that 19 MPG hand calculated ? I am thinking it was.
If someone with a 6 speed and 3.73 GR was willing to drive like a granny and keep it between 1500 and 1750 RPM they might see 22 ?
I have heard of some trucks having a 3.54 GR. Hyway cruising gear, not good for heavy towing.

It was, on my trips to/from PA I can normally get 400 or so miles on a half tank. I got two years worth of fuel receipts in the truck, I'll have to see if I can dig up the exact numbers. In the mountains to/from the steam programs I help with I normally see around 18.5.

I bought my 2001 F-250 with 270k on the clock and I have kept track of every gallon of fuel and every mile driven since I bought it over a year ago.
It is bone stock, specs are in signature line below.
Average mileage:
City: 19+ mpg
Highway: 24+ mpg
Figures calculated on an electronic calculator.
Note also that this was the mileage I got with a fuel leak. I have since repaired the fuel leak, but have not driven it enough to have gotten any updated figures.
