Miles to oil change when towing?

For anyone towing heavy 100 % of the time on an oil change, how many miles can you tow on the 6.7 diesel before the oil change light comes on? I really don't like surprises, and I know that it varies some, but a ballpark will help in planning.

I'm still on my first long tow, and at about 4000 miles towing from the east into the Rockies. I have to say that I liked my old Duramax info display that told me where I stood in terms of percentage until next oil change.

Roughly 7,000 mile intervals is when the display says to change. This pulling 15.5k 5th wheel. Coming up on 21k on the odometer next trip to wally world oil and filter will be purchased.

Not sure what trim level you have but my XL has oil life % in the information display. I would assume they all do? See pages 331 and 332 in the owners manual.

Diesels use Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor®
Gas use Oil-minder system(%)

Follow the severe maintance schedule in the owners manual.

I don't follow the oil minder. I change at 5K intervals.

I change at 5k or 1 year... Rotella T6. Usually ends up being an annual oil change. Give or take a month. I occasionally send in for an analysis and it always comes back to let it go another 5k miles.

I agree with both of the above at 5,000. I just sent the oil into Blackstone since the 3/36 runs out in 2 months. Nice to make sure everything is right prior to paying the 100 deductible.

X2 ^^ with a very similar rig. Truck spends 100% of its time towing the fifth wheel.

I change every 8k miles. I have just crossed the 100k and runs like a bear. I used Blackstone labs and every time I sent in a sample came back go another 5m and that went on for two years so I then found the point at 8k I felt comfortable. 5k was to soon and 10k wasn't giving me a warm fuzzy feeling. And she purrs like a kitten.

FWIW, towing from NH to Colorado and all around...about 8000 miles and no oil change light came on. Hope that helps someone else in planning their trips!

Haven't had to change yet, but i'll change it when the IOL monitor tells me. So far we have about 2500 miles towing a 5th wheel, and owner.ford.com says something like 81% life remaining.

The whole point of that sucker is to take into account engine use....

Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor,

I did some digging.. I did not know this type of monitor was around...

I found out.. it does not look/See the oil..
so
it does not see any dust passing the air filter
it does not see any moisture in the oil
it does not see any anti-freeze leakage past seals and gaskets.
it does not see any deposits that get past the compression rings and oil control rings.
it does not see any deposits from friction and metal wear.

so it does not monitor the damaging items that might enter the oil

my opinion,, an is worth what you paid for it...

above is true for Ford and GM...
its just a use database. over years of research. NOT YOUR ENGINE.

flame "ON".

Beginning of the year Rotella T6, don't watch mileage. Current F350 has 203,000, last F250 163,000 and 90% towing 8.5K to 12K 5W.

OK...a bit off topic, but how did you get Ford pass to work? I've tried several times, have the latest version etcetc.
