the ban works for the better but is just a step closer to a nationwide ban of internal combustion engines or a tighter policy on emission control.

Wonder where they will gt all that electricity from... they can't handle summer loads now. Too, these are the folks who like to think wishing will make it so - on many topics.

Wow, definitely interesting.

I love the idea of electric engines, but they really have to get the distance up. 200 - 250 miles on a charge just isn't enough. Maybe around town, but not for long distance, camping, etc.

This should have happened decades ago. Had the oil co's not been in bed with the auto manufacturers, it would have. It only took the melting of the polar caps to maybe change things.

I love my engine, but if it'd been more feasible, I'd have gladly put in an electric motor and loaded up on batteries. The torque would be drool worthy.

My wife and I are seriously considering an electric car as her next purchase.

I have to re-wire our garage for a behemoth of a TIG welder I recently acquired, and when I do I will be putting in provisions for a charging port at the door. As far as having enough electricity to fulfill the needs of recharging, I can see Canada from the shores of Lake Erie nearby. On a clear day I counted nine windmills on their banks. Recently a visiting relative asked us to take her to Canada for a visit. As we drove along the 401 I counted not 9, not 99, but probably 999 wind towers. C'mon Amerca.

Solar, wind, geothermal - anything that keeps us from having to rely on (foreign) sources of non-renewable oil I'm all for.

Timeline: History of the Electric Car . NOW on PBS

Electric vehicles have been around since the mid 1800s but were buried in a flood of oil...

To all of you experts on here just understand that you know almost nothing about what is involved in producing and distributing said power. Solar, wind, and geothermal have improved, but will never be the best thing since apple pie.

How, exactly, is it that you know anything about WHAT these folks know? That's an incredibly presumptive statement and it shows incredible grace on their part that none of them publicly took offense to it.

Just wanted to point out too, as well, that what doesn't get mentioned in these articles about the bans on internal combustion engines is the fact that from what I've read and have been told by a friend that works for a regulatory agency that will remain unnamed, it only applies to new vehicles, not existing ones. So even after such a ban went into effect it would likely take years and years afterwards before any appreciable benefit would ever be gained.

As well, you can be sure that such a rule would definitely drive up the demand and cost of existing vehicles plus a heck of a lot more people would likely try far harder to keep the ones they have on the road for as long as parts are available for them. It would certainly be wonderful if we could eliminate a big chunk of the greenhouse gasses that are resultant from automobile emissions but industry and cattle are larger culprits and I don't see them banning beef anytime soon.

Sorry Darkbreeze if you where offended, but I've spent to many years in the Electric Power Industry making your electricity and distributing it to you, to not put a little bit of a reminder out there. As far as trying to offend anyone, that was not my intention. My apologies if I offend any of you.

Didn't offend me. I certainly can't speak for anybody that had participated prior to that, but had I been one of them, it absolutely felt directed and the fact remains that simply because one knows things, even in great depth, that does nothing to diminish what others may or may not know. Plus, certainly there are better ways express a belief than to directly belittle other members by telling them they don't know anything.

Again, can't speak for anybody else, just my 2cents.
