1948-50 F1 Time for glass
OK, i'm at a point where I need to purchase glass for my early 50 F1. Now i'm seeing green tint, gray tint, clear.... What is original (i think it's clear?) and does anyone have a recommendation?. I don't have enough of the original glass to give to a local glass cutter and they don't seem to know what i need however they offer to cut it if i have a pattern. I think i'll splurge and go with a known good supplier even if that involves shipping. Any recommendations? I could pick it up at Carlise if they are there or Hershey but if i have to pay shipping that is fine too. Just looking for the correct glass and color. I understand some companies can script it as well. If it's reasonable i may do that for my 1950 restore since i'm trying to stay very close to original as i can.

Bill, I got green tint for my 54 but it is barely noticeable from the outside. Tinted glass was available in 54. I think they called it Easy Eye glass??? or something like that. I don't know about a 1950 model. Check with Mid West Early Ford. They go to Fall Carlisle and Hershey and will bring your order there.

I second what Doc said. Very happy with my decision to get it all from LMC. Several of my windows were cracked and they weren't all original glass so it was a lot easier than trying to get someone local to copy the glass I had.

In my area of the world, the cops love to pick on antique vehicles, and one item they look for on the windows is the 'tattoo' that says it is properly rated safety glass. Usually it's on the bottom left or right corner on the windshield and the bottom rear of side windows.
Does the LMC glass have that? It needs to be visible on front and side windows.
Eventually I need to order a full set as well.

Thanks Abe, you are correct however i didn't want to take my glass out of my 52 to get new glass for the 50 and besides it still would cover the back window or windshield (i'm not taking that out either
I think my best bet is to get it all from the same place so that it is the same. I've decided that if i can get down to carlisle or hershey i'll check out some vendors and see who has what.
Still can't seem to figure out if there was tint or no tint from the factory. Some say yes, others say no. For my 50 i'd like to stick to stock, for my 52 and 53, i'll probably go with a light tint

I also purchased much of my glass from LMC for both my F2 and just recently for my F1. They protect the glass very well during the shipping process and the front windshield is safety glass. I have also purchased a few pieces from NPD because they are local for me and the glass was perfect. Don't know about their shipping though as I picked it up myself. They are a little more expensive than LMC.

Sounds like LMC does a good job with it. I think i'm just going to get it from them but i'll wait until after the upcoming 2 shows to see what I find there. If i go and i can pick it up at the show it would make sense to do so. I can't see where LMC goes to fall carlisle or hershey.
