FORD RECALL: LEFT HAND REAR SEATBELT BUCKLE

I searched and did not see this posted yet:

Recall Date: AUG 28, 2017
Recall Title: LEFT HAND REAR SEATBELT BUCKLE INSPECTION
NHTSA Recall Number: AWAITING#
Ford Recall Number: 17C12
Recall Description: REAR INFLATABLE SEATBELT BUCKLE SOME RIVETS USED TO ATTACH THE INFLATABLE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY ON THE LEFT REAR SEAT TO ITS MOUNTING BRACKET MAY HAVE INADEQUATE RIVET HEAD THICKNESS.A SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY WITH AN INADEQUATE RIVET MAY FAIL TO COMPLY WITH SECTION 5.2 OF FMVSS 210.
Risk to Safety: INADEQUATE RIVET HEAD THICKNESS MAY ALLOW SEPARATION OF THE LEFT REAR INFLATABLE SEAT BELT BUCKLE FROM ITS MOUNTING BRACKET DURING A CRASH,INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY.
Remedy Program: OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE THE LEFT REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY RIVET HEAD THICKNESS INSPECTED.THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED IF THE RIVET IS FOUND TO BE INADEQUATE.THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE.FORD IS EXCLUDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY PROGRAM WOULD PROVIDE FOR A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS CONCERN.FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE.
Status: 12 - RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE.
Manufacturer Notes: TO CHECK FOR NON-SAFETY-RELATED PROGRAMS APPLICABLE TO YOUR VEHICLE, SEE HTTP://WWW.FORD.COM/ OR CALL YOUR FORD DEALER.

I took my truck to the dealer today and they have no parts or repair plan yet for the vehicles. Stated that the posted notice was so the dealerships who have inventory in stock could place the vehicles on hold until a repair plan and parts become available.

I noticed this showing up in the FordPass app a couple weeks ago. I haven't received my official mail notice from Ford yet but, my rig is almost due for its first oil change so I plan on getting it looked at when I take it in for the oil change.

Salesman told me about this Wednesday night when I picked up my truck. We were speculating on a delay mine had. He has new trucks on the lot he can't sell. He said Ford doesn't have a tool available yet for the dealers to measure the rivet head thickness. They have one on the assembly line so recent trucks were inspected before leaving the factory. This is for the inflatable seat belts only.

I had a dealer tell me about this just this past Tuesday. The sales manager didn't know the details, but he knew he had inventory he couldn't sell. His estimate was that he wouldn't be able to release their affected inventory until mid-October.

Slightly OT... I was in discussions with another dealer this week and mentioned this recall. They had no idea what I was talking about. Makes me even more happy I walked away from them.

Their technicians can't use a set of calipers? they need a special tool?

Question

This appears to be for the inflatable rear seatbelt.

Are there many out there?

Actually, there are at lest 2 250s with this issue. Both of the models I'm considering have the rear inflatable seat belts. Not that I'm looking for those, they just came equipped.

We got ours with the inflatable seat belts for the grand kids. They are actually cold gas bags, co2, and stay inflated unlike the front airbags.

When you guys start getting notified to bring the truck in for repairs please update here. I am in the process of buying a new F-350 with the seatbelt problem and I want to know so I can get the salesman on it so I can go get the truck. Thanks

The service manager at my dealership said info won't be available until the end of October.
