Removal of propane
I am original owner of a 1999 F250 light duty propane/gas, factory install truck with 105000 miles. After problems with the truck hesitating and not running correctly, I took it to Ford and the bottom line for repairs was that they wanted to sell me a new truck and forget about repairs. Among other problems-leaking intake manifold, hoses, belts, air conditioner, plugs, injectors and a bill of $9000!!! I went ahead and had a reputable mechanic remove the propane on the engine and I have yet to remove the tank and cover from the bed of the truck. Truck now runs fine except for a U1262 code and service engine light. In Arizona, a vehicle cannot pass inspection with codes in the system. After many different suggestions to by pass this code, I found someone that has gone thru this before and the computer must be flashed and reset for a gas only truck. This I have not done yet and my tags are still good until Sept. My truck looks brand new both outside and inside and these changes are a lot less expensive than buying a new truck. Propane was very useful on long trips and when propane was $1.05 per gallon. With 27 gallons of propane and 30 gallons of gas, my driving range was great. I now only travel short distances and with propane prices where they are, my use of propane was minimal. My truck was purchased in a rebate program of both state and federal which made it a bargain at the time. I will let you know when tank is removed and code is cleared on the progress.

What was the verdict? Im dealing with the same issue with a friends Truck that he bought from the Mesa fire department here in Arizona He tried to replace the intake manifold gasket and decided to remove all the propane hardware under the hood and now the truck won't start … question is does all that need to be connected for to run on the gasoline or would getting An ECU from a Normal gasoline F150 suffice as opposed to getting his re flashed?

Remove propane system-problem starting

I am in Mesa and had the propane system removed by a shop in Tempe—not cheap. Truck runs fine but check engine light will not go out. Went to emissions and received a 2 year waiver and changed tags to regular tags. I figure by the time I decide to sell, I will advertise it to someone outside of Maricopa County that does not have to go thru emissions. 99 F-250 light duty with 106,000 miles. Gas mileage sucks and it always has. Truck is in excellent condition other than needing brakes. I am original owner. Ford never could figure out the problem and with an estimate of $9000 to repair, they were essentially telling me they wanted to sell me a new truck. Good luck with yours.

Propane System
It was Rob's Auto Repair in Tempe--480-427-2655. Like I said it wasn't cheap. I had new gaskets, plugs, injectors, hoses, belts replace some parts on the AC and it cost a little less than $3000. I had to weigh this against buying another vehicle or spending this. Did you also remove the tank in the bed of the truck or leave it in? I still have not removed mine but Rob said that he would remove it if I wanted. I just have not gotten around to do it. I would sell the cover, 32gal tank and whatever else if I know someone would buy them.
Good luck on yours

Hey there - know its been awhile since you delt with this problem, but this is a new problem for me. Still looking for a shop that knows what they are doing when it comes to bi-fuel vehicles. Most want to probe and poke making guess after guess all while chocking me out of my hard earned money.
Just curious who finally flashed your ECM? According to some of the data i have found (not an expert by no means) there are supposedly 2 ECM's on these trucks. One for the regular gas side and one for the propane side. My guess is all they had to do was flash the ECM to tell it to ignore the other ECM?
Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. This is just an old farm truck now, but it still has to make consistent runs into town without breaking down.

It has been some time. Remember that I had a shop disconnect all the alt fuel including the tank in the bed of the truck. Truck ran fine after expense--over $2000--but still had the check engine light and could not pass inspection with that. I finally found a small automotive high performance shop that is run by younger mechanics that work on exotic engines. They had someone that works at the shop only a few days a week. I left the truck for a day, he came in and flashed the computer and $250 later problem solved and runs fine and sailed thru emissions.
