Which "super Duty" bug shield ?
#18
I heard that people were having problems with the stick on bug shields, that grit was getting on the 3m tape and leaving marks on the paint due to vibrations. Not sure if that's true or not. The one that I ordered(which is going back on Monday) has Super Duty recessed in the shield. Looks like the one I ordered had been repacked, has a lot of marks on it. If it had been 50.00 I wouldn't care as much but for the money I paid I get to mark it up.

Mine had a film over the shield so it didn't get scratched in shipping. I would have sent it back also.

I just removed my bug shield, the no drill hardware one, to paint the mounting brackets so they would stop making rust run across my headlights. There is a rubber strip behind the shield to keep the space between the hood and shield. Dirt got in there and started sanding the paint off. I may just get a clear bra on the hood.

[QUOTE=2ksteeda;17485970]The no-drill chrome one I got about 10 days ago has some kind of black plating on the brackets. Are these the ones that rust or did I get the updated version?[/Quote
The bug shield I got on Friday had black hardware but just looked like paint not like a plating. You have a photo by chance?

I took a picture. I thought the brackets looked plated black before, but in the bright sun today I think it could be paint. I also didn't realize how bad the plastic bracket bites into the hood. I guess if it leaves a mark no one will see it.

Well the second bug shield arrived at the Ford dealer ( HC3Z-16C900C) what a joke they are. Who ever is molding these for Ford should stop. I think a high school shop class could do a lot better. Guys in the parts department said I should not accept it even before I saw it. Its like they never clean the molds while making these. Cloudy imperfections through out. Time to fine a different one.

The contact with the hood was bugging me so i took the shield off and cut the points off that were hitting in the 1st pic.
I would advise anyone installing one to check that area. I got lucky and it didnt leave any permanent marks yet. I did flip the clear protector tape around so the punctured side was underneath the hood before re-installing.
When you install this, leave the metal brackets off until you work the shield into place. Start from one side and slowly get the plastic mounts under the weather seal from end to end. Then snap the brackets in and install the T20 torx screws.

If you find something you think looks like it will work without causing future problems give a shout. I am still looking but still haven't seen anything yet.
