Limited slip differential on ford expedition

Hi,

How can I identify if my car has a limited slip rear differential? The VIN decoding did not specify it. Year 2000, 5.4 l, 4x4 Eddie Bauer
Thanks,
Vahagn

1. There's a sticker in the driver's door area that has an axle code on it.
2. There's a metal axle ID tag under one of the bolts on the differential cover.
3. Jack up the rear so both wheels are off the ground, in Park with e-brake off, turn either wheel. If the opposite side turns in the opposite direction it's a standard rear. If however you cannot turn the wheel or it's extremely hard then you have a LS rear.

Are you a fan of South Park? If so try and remember what happened in the episode where Cartman couldn't wait for the Nintendo WII to arrive.

Not indeed,
but googled it. I would prefer freezing to the exact moment it arrives to Armenia

Input the VIN here: Ford ETIS

Look through the vehicle details. That will tell you if it came from the factory with a limited slip rear axle.

Thanks RLA 2005,

I did try the site, it renders most of the expedition specs, however it returns for some reason Cmax 2007-2010. This is not clear to me, however according to these specs it has a limited slip. Must wait for the car to arrive.
Thankss

Yeah, some of the information at the top is sometimes a little odd. But I have always found the vehicle details to be accurate.

I got the door sticker photo. It is H9, so I believe it should be 3.55LS

And at this point, no matter what it was originally, it probably doesn't limit slip anymore.

"And at this point, no matter what it was originally, it probably doesn't limit slip anymore."

Why do you think so?

The clutches tend to wear out after a few miles. The factory setting is pretty loose by design. If you find this is the case the plates can be replaced and restacked for a tighter grip. The Ford Motorsports catalog has kevlar replacements.

Thanks, Let's see when the truck arrives, and we will start from there? Do we have to take down the differential case? or the replacement can be done without disassembly?
Thanks, Vahagn

I have not worked on the rear axle on either of my Navigators. I have no idea if you have to drop the center section to even remove the cover. It was easy to do on my solid axle 8.8" equipped vehicles.

It's much easier if you can pull the carrier and put it on a bench. Not rocket science, it just takes time.
