P0462- Fuel gauge pegged on E

Hey guys,
i have a 2008 f250 5.4 crew cab king ranch. Hopped in today and the low fuel light was on and gauge was pegged on E, soon after the engine light came on. Pulled the code and got a Po462. Looked it up and says fuel level sensor problem. Looked up the part and can't find a fuel level sensor for this truck. I can find a fuel pressure sensor , sending unit, and fuel pump. I'm guessing the sensor is on the sending unit in the tank and I have to drop it. Has anyone else had this issue?

thanks!

When my fuel pump was crapping out, the fuel gauge would drop to E and low fuel light would come on when the pump intermittently stopped. Replace the whole assembly with a quality part. Many people find it easier to lift the bed off than it is to drop the tank.

Yes.

There is a float on the fuel pump assembly attached to an arm that moves against the sensor. As the float raises and lowers a different electrical value is registered on the sensor.

Your pump assembly will look similar to this:

The white cylinder is the pump and internal filter housing. Above that is the level sender which is attached by a thin rigid wire to the black float at the bottom.
