Well yeah - one would hope that Ford made some major improvements after 6 years of experience - I'm sure the ball bearings in the turbo aren't ceramic - what did they do to the connecting rods? Seen a bunch of stuff - from the intercooler pipe bursting to ceramic ball bearings failing to making us guess when we need DEF to radiator leaks in the 11 - 16 6.7 - don't think I've seen anything on a connecting rod failure

False

Those are not the 2017 rods! The 2017 rods have a bigger wrist pin bore and that is all. HC3Z-6200-B is the part # for the new rod and that is not it.

I thought this was still a rumor on the street. Has it been officially confirmed that Ford upgraded the rods? Also I thought it has been confirmed that Job 1 '17 trucks still had the original rods?

Might you have a pic of this rod?

What we "do" know is that there is a difference in pistons, rods, wrist pins, and crankshafts in build dates after 2016-01-06. Wrist pins were increased to 35mm from 34mm.

We "do" know that a gentleman who works for AAM confirmed that these are being made but couldn't comfirm when or if they were put into production engines.

I may or may not have gotten confirmation from someone at Ford that these in fact are the rods in 2017 Super Duty 6.7 engines

So now, all we can do is wait for someone to crack a 2017 engine open and show us. From what I am seeing from Matt at Patriot tuning, if the 11-16 rods are in fact still in the truck, he has a freak engine because the abuse he puts his 2017 through should have shown bent rods already.

Connecting rod failures really only show up on tuned(2015 & 2016 trucks) or heavily modded trucks. Not enough fuel or air on the 2011-2014 trucks to hurt themselves unless you have extremely poor tuning.

Looks Like?

The rod on the left reminds me of a 6.4 rod. Anyone else?

6.4 rod on left. "Supposed" new 6.7 rod on right.

Looks close

They look similar. Some small differences but still close. I wonder if there is a change in the material used. The new one is also much less expensive. The plot thickens!

Not sure. They definitely favor. If they are in there, fingers are crossed that they are just as strong as the 6.4 connecting rods! They will be powdered metal just like they have been since the late 7.3 days. Bout all we know to be fact at the moment. Made a request to a Ford diesel tech buddy to take a look if he gets the chance soon. He said he has one coming in that grenaded from the low pressure oil pump fiasco. Fingers crossed he gets to tear into it.

Strength or Cheap

I think it would be a nice upgrade assuming the new rods are actually stronger than the old rods. But have the old rods been proven to be that weak? Maybe the new ones are just less expensive. H&S got 883hp and over 1600ft/lb on the stock bottom end. That's pretty good.

Bentley did abuse that stock bottom end. As a whole, the 6.7 rods are pretty weak compared to the 6.0 and 6.4. They will live forever at stock power levels, which they were designed to do. But for those of us who can't just leave nice trucks alone, they are the first weak point that needs addressed when turbos and more fuel are added unless you have a 2015 or 2016 then it's the transmission usually.

Carrillo

On my race motor, gas v-8, I use Carrillo rods for peace of mind. True, the stock 6.7 rods are great for stock engines and I'm happy with them because I wont be modding the 6.7. Still, I would not mind seeing the beefier rods in there.
