Bad Front U-Joint/Locking hub Diagnosis
Just wondering what the best way to diagnose bad or frozen front u-joints on my 2000 F-350.
Last week the truck started pulling right in an intermittent fashion. On an occasional right turn it would pull too far right and require some effort to get it to track straight out of the turn. I’ve had calipers stick and this does not feel the same as it feels like the right hub catching and letting go (not a constant pull).
My front manual locking hubs (not an esof truck) are more than likely original with nearly 244k on them. I’ve had it happen early this year and played with the hubs when it acted up and it stopped.
Yesterday I did some playing around and removed both locking hubs and drove around. The occasional pull to the right seems to have severely dissipated. With the t-case in 2wd I’m able to spin the u joint.
The u-joint on that side has a grease zerk, I’m not sure if they came with the factory like that.

You made it 100k past the life of the front end on my truck. Required a COMPLETE rebuild, ball joints, bearing hubs, stub axles, everything but brake calipers. Put it in 4wd and it would seesaw on corners because the u-joints were frozen up and the collar for the inboard seal on the bearing hub was rusted and a groove was dug into the surface of the shaft. They were DONE and there was nothing to do but replace everything.
