Another old truck gets a new engine...

Well after the parade the other day I decided it was time to retire the old engine and get the truck ready for new life. I think I cleared the entire route of mosquitoes and some parade goers with smoke. The old power plant is weak and tired. A few months back I had tried to take up the rod bearings only to find that there were no more shims. Oh well put it off as long as I could.

I know how you felt after that parade. My first T had a tired engine too and I felt bad after my first Memorial Day parade. I wouldn't have wanted to be in the group of walkers behind me that day...

I removed the engine and had it rebuilt the following winter. I hated to pull it but I was better off in the long run.

It's a good move all in all. It's a great feeling when one fires up a smooth, clean running engine. For me it's just nice to know all is well under the hood. Keep us posted through the process. We all love the engine stuff here!

No, there is no steering box on a Model T. They do have reduction gears in a small housing at the top of the steering column, right behind the steering wheel itself. The stock ratio is 4:1 so the steering is very quick but they steer easy as long as everything is in good shape up front.

T engine...

Thanks guys, I am ahead of the curve, I have a nice 18 engine with modern insides all ready to go in as soon as I can get clear of a few things, maybe in a couple of weeks. Sure will post photos. Glad that people like my old iron. For years I did "pretty" stuff, nice but not much attention given to it or as much as I get now with the oldies but unrestoredies. Plus I can use them and have fun!
