Since there are no pictures of the grill, how would one reach this conclusion?

Does anyone know for sure if the steering column out of a 67 is the same for a 66? Both manual steering, both floor shift.

First picture. Blow it up. No radiator. You can see the square openings of a 65' grille. Am I wrong? Rare grille. Especially if it is aluminum. CCs are aluminum.
Sure hope I'm right since I'm not smoking anything.

Upon closer inspection, I would say that you are correct.

Sometimes I'm glad I don't pay much attention to details...

i thought you were on to something, but when I zoom in it looks like what you see through the radiator opening is the upper valance. If you follow the top of the valance from the near side of the truck it appears to line up. The grille would be much lower.

And yes the vin # on the frame matches the vin plate on the door.

I am new to this series of trucks. I just bought a 66 flareside in pieces and I have two grills.

I have a metal one and an aluminum one.

I am not sure which to use. the truck is a plane jane. No interior trim on doors, no door pull handles. It does not even have a visor on pass side.

What is the grill that is referred to as the "piece of gold hanging up front" ?

How are your backup lights operated. My '66 used to have them and I have some replacements i'm going to put on.

The original tranny, a New Process 435 according to the vin, was robbed so I don't have it to look at for a switch. I haven't even had a chance to get under the truck to check for a factory type harness. I just wonder if these backup lights were factory installed or dealer or owner installed. They look pretty old but professionally installed. The truck is a very late 66 so it just makes me wonder if some 67 features got snuck in early on the late 66 models. ??

Factory back-up lights did not become available until the 1967 model year - which doesn't mean that some enterprising owner or dealer could not installed some anyway. The '67 rear lenses with back-up lights fit the same holes as the '66 truck.
Benbuilder - the reference to the "piece of gold" would be if he had a '65 grille in good shape, paricularly an anodised one. If your grilles are for the '66 model year of your truck they do not qualify. Sorry!
