Need Advice On This Inspection Report

I realized this should be in the 1999 year forum, so can a moderator delete this? Thanks.

Hi all,

I'm leaning towards buying a 1999 F-250 SD Lariat SuperCab SWB 4WD with the 7.3 liter PowerStroke diesel engine.

Here's the inspection report the seller sent me below. He told me he'd give me $500 off, since some things will eventually need to be addressed, but some of the stuff that's in the report, he didn't mention.

The price would be $6,500, down from $7,000.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks.

By the way, if you need to zoom in to read it, you should be able to by hitting "Ctrl +" on the keyboard.

my thought is that truck needs about $4000 in repairs and is no where near the asking price.

Maybe 4k at a shop. With a high door rate. If you do work yourself, belt, belt tensioner, steer stabilizer, change all fluids (oil, trans, t-case, both diffs, and coolant) while doing trans fluid do the filter and you would fix the trans leak at the same time. May want to look at front end again. Steer play says possibly steer shaft, gear box, pitman arm, drag link, etc. Something was missed i think. I wouldnt go over...5 max. Ptolly closer to 4500. Other stuff is kinda petty. Id say if you do it all, under 1k in parts. For whats actually needed for safety.

you are looking at almost a grand for the oil pan. you have to pull the engine to do it.
i don't work for free, and that reflects into the price i will pay for a vehicle.

Just my $0.02 USD worth

My opinion, FWIW, is that truck is a walk-away. Inspection cover for transmission missing? That says someone's been in there, trying to fix something. Maybe it wasn't fixed, so that's why the cover isn't in place. Zip ties in use instead of clamps? Are you prepared to pull the engine to fix the oil pan leakage? That is a big job.

No, that one has been rode hard and put away wet. There are better trucks out there that will not need major work right off the bat.

I tend to walk away from major leaks, missing parts and inoperative lighting.
