SD axle swap
I have a donor 2002 excursion, and i want to swap both front and rear axles into my 94 F-350.
Now before some of you jump my stuff and ask why i would want to do such a thing, I have 3 SD trucks and 1 Ex and between them all i have a ton of spare parts wheels tires ect.
Yes I know the down side to the SD front axle is unit bearings, I've had pretty good luck with the ones in my 2000. But I also bought Timken bearings and change them @ 90K miles just because I know what its like to loose a bearing on a truck running 20x12 wheels and 37's doing 50 mph down the highway.
So from what ive read to do the front is pretty straight forward. I'm most likely going to run Sky's SD axle RSK along with their SD axle panhard bar, their brake line conversion. I have a set of Pro-Comp SD 2 inch lift springs for the front so that should be around 6 inch of lift if everything is correct.
My questions are for the rear and the brakes. I want to have a working e-brake so whats needed for that?
Can i change the master to a OBS F450 and not do anything else? Or just get away with running a proportioning for the rear or is one needed for both front and back? Also i've read that the spring pirches are narrower on the obs that the SD axle, do i need to cut them off and move them in some? The flange on the yoke is different from the OBS to EX axles can I just pull the yoke off the old 10.25 and swap it to the EX axle? I will be running SD rear lift springs probably 4 inch Pro-Comps, is there anything else besides shocks that may be needed?
Thanks guys, I'm just trying to round up all the parts so i can do it in a weekend. Not in any hurry right now, still gotta pull the donor axles, rebuild the front as far as ball-joints brakes and bearings go. I hope to reall get the frame and underside cleaned up before this all takes place.
P.S sorry for the long post.
