Saw a really rare 65 Econoline a couple weeks ago.

Was camping in Colorado in our 96 E150. When we got back to the camp site after dark, there was a mid 60's Econoline parked in the site next to us. The wife thought maybe we'd gone back in time and a family of Hippies had moved in, LOL. When I woke up the next morning, the neighbors were already up and about. What caught my eye was the gaping hole in the driver's side of that Econoline. I thought, huh, they must have done some custom work to the old girl. I walked over after getting coffee started to see the old van. No Hippies there, but an older couple (like us) there. The van was a custom ordered 65 Econoline with swing out doors on both sides, also an extended body as well. The van was in great shape, original paint with only the rear doors having been replaced (different color, white instead of the blue on the rest of the body. The owner had found it in a shed in Leadville and had put several grand into getting it running again. This was their first trip out in it. It was custom ordered by the original owner to be used as a service van for his business. Got to be the only one like it still around with those options.

We call those "8-door" Econolines. I have two, one with windows and one without.

449 of the extended vans (SuperVan) came with 8 doors in 1965. Rare indeed.

Thanks for posting.

449 with the 8 doors, and how many total survivors (and running) ? I'll bet not a dozen. This one had no windows on any of the rear doors. The owner's only complaint was the heat generated sitting beside the engine.

1965: 449 E100 Super Cargo Vans (body style 89R) assembled; 1,358 E100 Super Window Vans (body style 89N) assembled.

Leadville CO: Highest incorporated city in the US @ 10,000 ft.

The "unsinkable Molly Brown" husband, the Tabors and others made their fortunes there.

You're wrong. Leadville's altitude is officially 10,152' "Highest" city in the USA, in more ways than one Lots of other famous people were there in the 1800's too. The two highest "Fourteeners" are across the valley from town. Also the headwaters of the Arkansas River are just ten miles or so up the valley. As is the largest Molydenum mine in the world.

OK, so I missed the altitude by 152 ft. I was there in 1991, haven't been back since.

'Unsinkable' Molly Brown is probably the most famous resident. She is 'so called' because she manned the oars of a lifeboat after the RMS Titanic sank.

if you say that they only made 445 8 door Supervans, then this one must be really rare. Is currently for sale.

Complete Mercury Super van, "does not run", auto, very little rust
Bring a trailer and tow it home only $2600, no papers or key
