Alright so my neighbor has a 1994 2.3 l Ford Ranger I think it has around 100,000 miles it has 8 spark plugs for the four cylinders two coil packs. He was having multiple issues with the truck skipping bogging says the transmission feels a little funny haven't got a chance to drive it yet but yesterday we found and fixed a vacuum leak right to the fuel pressure regulator swap the fuel filter he has done spark plug wires and plugs and a new air filter. Hasn't seemed to Made A Difference he said his problem is intermittent I'ma give you a list of the codes and maybe somebody can point him in the right direction. I had a similar issue on my 88 Chevy and it turns out it was my ignition control module I think that's his problem also but it's been awhile since I've worked on Ford's

157, (R,M) Mass Air Flow signal is/was low or grounded - MAF
213, (R) Ignition SPOUT or SAW circuit open or shorted - Ignition Systems
223, (M) Dual Plug (DPI), SPOUT or IDM circuit fault - Ignition Systems
224, (M) Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems

It could be a failed/failing MAF but a failed coil will cause the symptoms you describe. Some vehicles/transmissions may not shift correctly with misfires.
