I just spent $29k for the truck and want to take good care of it. Thanks in advance
So how much fuel needs to be drained from the water separator? I have watched a couple of videos and it's kind of confusing. Any help is appreciated

Not much because water is heavier than diesel so the water will come out first. also when you wanbt to change the filter drain a little fuel out than loosen the housing one or 2 turns. That will stop the fuel from entering the filter than drain the rest of the way. If you dont than you will drain all the fuel in the tank Its not that hard to do.

Yeah I drained it a few days ago and it was very clean. Also been doing research about deleting the egr/dpf/scr. From what I have researched most of the issues around these engines are related to the epa ***** and emissions.

Quick question...I watched some videos draining water from the separator and the guys on the video say to drain about 10 oz or so? How can I tell how much water versus fuel is coming out?

Just drain enough that it is coming out clear and steady with no bubbles.

It did have some bubbles at the top but it looked liked it was caused by the drop of the fuel from the filter to the ground which was about 12". The jar looked to me as though it was 100% fuel but I have never done this before

a lot of times you will see the bubbles right out of the nozzle.

Sounds like you are fine. Let the fuel sit in the jar a bit. A clear jar will let you see if there is water. Water and fuel don't mix so it will separate if there is any water.

Ok cool...what do you guys think about deleting the egr/dpf/scr systems and just having a basic street tune put on?

I see no value for me. A lot depends upon use. For me the system works well since I tow and work it hard.

If you are not using the truck hard then it may help with issues or concerns that may arise.

Most of the issues I think are EGR cooler related. It can get gummed up if not driven hard.

Don't do it think you are going to get mpg gains. It is not going to happen or if it does it will be almost nil.

I would say about 80% of the time I am towing around 5k lbs total including the trailer. Would you say it's a good idea to get the RPM'S up from time to time to clean the system? Maybe punch it a couple times here and there?

About what's the highest rpm's I should run it to on occasion and for how long? Could I do it in park and maybe run it at 2k rpm's for about 5 minutes or so?

no you need some full throttle runs or heavy load conditions. Run it to about 3K.

I'd run it with a heavy load if you could on occasion and don't baby it with the load. Get right on it and keep up with traffic.

Ok will do. It's hard not babying it after my 5.4 gas burner I had for years.

No doubt...I gave it some hard throttle just a couple days ago even with my trailer and it felt like I was driving a ferrari. The amount of power this engine produces is awe inspiring
