1992 Aerostart wont start HELP!
Hi, i have a 1992 Aerostar with a 3.0L engine. For the past few weeks she intermittently didnt want to start but eventually always did. I replaced the fuel pump relay because she always have had problems with that. The relays are loose and get wet. Anyway, i thought i fixed it because i didnt have any problems for about 2 weeks. But one day didnt want to start again. She finally started and took her home. Now, no matter what she wont start. I did some tests and there is gas been pumped but i dont have a spark. I put a new ignition coil and a new ignition module and still no spark. If im right, i only have 2 things left that could be the culprit, the profile ignition pickup, and/or the computer. Is there any other reason that could be the problem? I read online that in order to replace the PIP i have to take apart the distributor. Is this true?
Thanks in advance for any help! I will really appreciate it.

when you turn the switch to START before cranking, do you hear the fuel pump make a "gurgling" sound? If yes, the pump is doing its job, pressurizing the system so obviously not a fuel problem.
have you tried stepping on the brake pedal, ignition switch in START, (but no cranking), shifting the Shifter from Park to First and back?
If it starts fine after doing that, it could be the Neutral Safety Switch, just a guess.

That is a good suggestion. Although i converted my van to 5 speed. I need to check that switch anyway. I have a question, if the switch is not good, would the van still crank or do nothing? She cranks but wont start (i forgot to mention that important detail, sorry). Since i dont have an auto transmission anymore i hooked up the switch to the clutch pedal so the van wont start if the pedal is not depressed. Could that switch cause no spark? Btw, yes, i can hear the pump doing its job when i turn the key.

If the starter is cranking, then you have the neutral switch working properly as a clutch switch. It should not be affecting the ignition system.
If you suspect the PIP sensor, you can try replacing it, but it does require disassembling the distributor.
Another possibility is the crankshaft position sensor. That's easier to replace.
Neither should be very expensive.

I noticed there are 2 types of PIP. I'm gonna try to attach a photo of mine. Do i still have to take the distributor apart for both types? It doesnt look like i have to with the one i have but i can be mistaken since i havent try yet. It kinda looks like it goes under the rotor and only 2 screws are holding it. Sorry, i dont have a pic of my actual PIP but it looks like the one in the picture. Where is the crankshaft position sensor located? Thank you both for the input.

This looks different than the ones I saw, so maybe you can remove it just by removing 2 screws. Try taking it and see how far you get.
The crankshaft position sensor is in the front of the engine, usually on the lower right, by the crankshaft. I think you should be able to remove that without much trouble.
Jose, do you remember how many wires there were on the neutral safety switch?
