Out camping with boy scouts this weekend on the beach. My first time camping at NBVC, hoping to get some cool tours.

A few pics from the Base the past weekend. Nice campsite for use by base personnel and those with a pass. Nice and quiet compared to most So Cal public campsites. Could see in the distance a gold dome'd building; it's part of the Iraqi village for practicing scenarios. The pools were part of their dolphin training center back in the 60-70's.

Wow! Seems I haven't seen 80 for a while. He's almost as tall as his dad!

Why is he displaying the Hawaiian state flag?

EDIT: Are those bent knees, Sean?

Could be slightly bent! It was a 9/11 remembrance with many state flags in addition to USA.

Edit, just learned. "It is the only U.S. state flag to feature the flag of a foreign country, the Union flag of the United Kingdom, a remnant of the British Empire's influence on Hawaiian history."

From JetBlue.

"One hurdle for aspiring pilots is the hefty, six-figure cost of training and gathering flight experience.

The four-year JetBlue program costs $124,000, which includes lodging, food and examiner fees. But the cost is blunted by the prospect of a training salary while still part of the program — and a job at the end."

I shoulda applied earlier...

Back when our national protected lands were growing, I used to think, I should visit there before they charge a fee. Now that they may shrink, I better get that t-shirt before they disappear .

We've discussed here before. My plan is to take a few weeks driving back to IL and see as many of these as I can tolerate. Crowds should be better in NOV.

Have a friend with a 2000 7.3 who lives in the west SFV. Needs a water pump replaced, and I can't do it for him (back giving out). Need to find him a place that knows these trucks and engine.

Anybody?????

Preferably West Valley, or east Simi Valley.

OTOH, does anyone want to DO this job for him?

Adieu Hugh.

"I would like to be remembered as somebody who has changed the world in some positive way, in a social, sexual sense, and I'd be very happy with that," Hefner told CNN. "I'm a kid who dreamed the dreams and made them come true."

I just watched a video of this on YouTube, doesn't seem all that difficult. Would he be able to buy the special wrenches that you see in the video?

Like the video states, best to replace the thermostat, housing, and serpentine belt too.

I would be interested in being the wrencher on this job if we had everything ready to go and we can start early. I have hernia surgery coming up soonish so if we could do it before surgery, that would be best.

Fyi, I have never done it on this truck but will give it a go.

The latest documentary from Ken Burns aired its final episode last night. It was a long haul, 10 episodes, each 90-120 minutes long. As someone who came of age during that war, it was tough to watch. But I have to say that I learned a lot about the war, particularly the first few episodes that covered how the war began, long before the USA became involved. How in some ways it was a continuation of WWII and Korea, and drawn out by the cold war. The final few episodes covered years, toward the wars end, the details of which I remember watching on the nightly news, but also a lot of detail that at the time, the public did not know.

I turned 18 in 1972, so of course I had to register for the selective service, and I think I had 1 or 2 draft lottery drawings, best I can remember. My numbers were high. High was good. Low was bad. By then the US was severely drawing down troop levels, and I never was close to being called, although it certainly did not seem like a safe bet at the time. The war continued until the end of '75, I'm so thankful to have not been part of the fighting, although I am sorry that I am not a veteran.

Jon,

Thanks for the kind offer! However, Justin {OlBlackCat}, who is far closer to him, has also offered. He has a 7.3, and has done the job on his own truck. I have already put him in touch with my friend, and they are working things out to get started.

Again, MUCHO thanks!!

It's good to know that we have such a deep talent pool here in SoCal who are willing to help out when things go bad.
