Getting a place to camp is getting crazy

So far the number of campground spaces suggest they are not keeping up with demand. If i recall correctly KOA only increase available spaces by 40 last year for their entire network. However, if the economy goes to pieces like it did in 07, that will solve the problem. At present everyone who can spell RV is either manufacturing them or selling them.

Yup, trends....ruined fly fishing, surfing, performance horse industry, hiking, backpacking, duck hunting, goose hunting, and any otherwise great and cool outdoor sports...just to name a few...I call it the swarm of the kooks....RVing is next until people can't afford it.

Even with this setup though, their problem is,the long lines of traffic waiting to just get it to the park,to get on a shuttle and tour the park. Then while in there, all those people crowding the trails, and putting a strain on all the infrastructure.

At Zion? You can only drive inside Zion during the winter months....at least I could last winter.I just got there before they started running the shuttle buses for the season but it's my understand during peak times, you need to park at the visitor center and can't drive in at all but need to take the shuttle buses.

I find it interesting that in the 70's I went camping with a tent to Sky Line drive. I remember a Ranger telling me that they were up 10,000 guests per year. And I had no trouble driving up to any camping area and get a decent spot. All 105 mile of it and it was relaxed and easy going, loved the restaurants. It was 39 or 69 cents for flap jacks. Food and conversation was great. My favorite camping in the country.
Now millions per year and everything packed. Traffic up the wa-zoo. I guess that's progress?
