I think you both might be onto something but we can also thank the tiny house craze for adding to the stupid madness that's happening right now. I hope it dies away just like every other trend because so many things have been ruined by trends.

Given the National Parks are discussing limiting not camping but admission, I think we are already at that point.

We were in Zion (somewhat) recently and it was an absolute mad house. I believe its one of the first they will start limiting.

Like a trendy new restaurant with long waiting list, Zion National Park might require a reservation

Yup, trends....ruined fly fishing, surfing, performance horse industry, hiking, backpacking, duck hunting, goose hunting, and any otherwise great and cool outdoor sports...just to name a few...I call it the swarm of the kooks....RVing is next until people can't afford it.

I think you can add RVing to the list now!

Uhmmmm....do they limit the individual/ family in a car or the tour bus with 50+/- people in them. I wonder which spends more money?

At Zion? You can only drive inside Zion during the winter months....at least I could last winter.I just got there before they started running the shuttle buses for the season but it's my understand during peak times, you need to park at the visitor center and can't drive in at all but need to take the shuttle buses.

Even with this setup though, their problem is,the long lines of traffic waiting to just get it to the park,to get on a shuttle and tour the park. Then while in there, all those people crowding the trails, and putting a strain on all the infrastructure.

Trouble with Zion buses is they are so darn full, you often can't even get on.

Thankfully I got to camp and see Zion firsthand as a teenager before all of this crap started.

We were there 2 years ago in late September and really didn't have that many problems, we couldn't get into Watchman CG (all the big sites were taken)but we stayed for a week at the Quality Inn CG and just walked or used our bikes.

I find it interesting that in the 70's I went camping with a tent to Sky Line drive. I remember a Ranger telling me that they were up 10,000 guests per year. And I had no trouble driving up to any camping area and get a decent spot. All 105 mile of it and it was relaxed and easy going, loved the restaurants. It was 39 or 69 cents for flap jacks. Food and conversation was great. My favorite camping in the country.

Now millions per year and everything packed. Traffic up the wa-zoo. I guess that's progress?

Due to overpopulation,it may not be a bad thing,if some folks want to live in a shoe box though. We actually might want to thank them for giving us more room lol.
