looking for ideas for relocating gas tank to rear, behind axle. Anyone have pictures of this? Where did you mount filler tube..what tank did you use?
Thanks

I'm just assuming that the frame rails on a panel are just like the trucks... lots of guys put the Mustang tanks behind the rear end... here's an article I did on mine and John (56panelford) has a 56 panel he brought back from the grave... he's a panel guru... drop him a pm and he'll help you out I know

John (56panelford) installed a metal floor in his Panel. So I'm not sure what he did for a fuel cell.
Why are you relocating your Panels fuel tank? Brake booster interference? Unlike the others Panels tanks are inside the frame rails keeping them pretty safe.

I had a tank made by Boyd in Ocala, FL. They do great work. I added a rear crossmember and welded in some nut so the tank could easily be removed from under the truck. The fuel fill is under the rear floor and I made a hinged section of floor that tips up to get to the filler neck.

Mine is a 1950 F2 but the principle is the same. I understand that certain mustang tanks work on 1955s. If you do a forum search on gas tanks they should come up.

That's fine for a pickup but not for a panel where you'd be smelling fumes, you need a tank that has a spout from the side of the tank and re-locate the filler tube to the side body panel. I used a 73 Chevy Blazer tank for my panel and had to go through the frame...

Here it is. This is in a Chev C10 chassis that I used for my panel but frame widths are the same but this frame is beefier that the Ford frame so had to do a bit of trimming to place between the rails but would fit the Ford frame without any problem. I did have the spout re-located back a bit further and a larger tube installed. Another option would be the 78 full sized Bronco tank I used for my pickup

John,
Don't know how I missed this but your through the frame mount is where I came up with mine.

James,
If I had this to do over I WOULD NOT install a GM/Chevy tank like I did. I've not been able to find a salvage yard with a Maverick (not a Mustang) tank but in reading post I believe the fill tube can be routed out the BACK presumably between the floor and the bumper.
You do not want a hole in your floor of any kind so there is no way fumes can make it into the cargo/cab area.

I used a Mustang tank in my panel. Used the stock Mustang fill (center rear of tank) but routed the fill out to the side of the panel. Fills a little slow. If I was to do over i would still use a Mustang tank but add a fill on the side and go through the frame to a fill in the side of the panel.
