[1992 5.0] Ignition coil keeps burning out
I've burnt through 3 ignition coils in a combined probably 15 minutes of run time. My truck has been out of commission for a couple of months until I found the time to change every seal and gasket but the heads. After replacing everything the truck seemed to run fine. I drove it around the block a few times and noticed the valve cover was still leaking. I resat the valve cover and all was well, minus the liter of oil I dumped on the driverside exhaust manifold.
The next day I started her up and let it idle for 5 minutes or so and it died out of nowhere and wouldn't start back up. I traced it back and found out the ignition coil wasn't getting a spark but the wires running to it were functioning as they are supposed to. They ignition coil was old so I didn't think much of it, and went to the parts store to buy a new coil.
I slapped the new coil in and she fired right up and ran for a couple of minutes before dying again out of nowhere. I decided to swap out all the plug wires, and the 4 spark plugs I accidentally dumped oil all over (the old plugs only had around 5,000 miles on them, felt no need to change both banks) Still no dice, so I went back to the store and got another coil.
I put it in and started the truck, it ran for a minute or two with a more noticeable misfire than before and then died and wouldn't start back up.
Do I just have bad luck and got stuck with two different defective coils or is something going on that is burning out my coils? I tested the voltage of the wires that connect to the ignition coil, the positive cable puts out 12v and the other wire makes my light tester flash while cranking.
