I haven't done the boost leak detector thingy either, but I've always had the same question? How does it work, from either end, since there's most likely gonna be at least one cylinder in valve overlap? If you plugged the CCV and the exhaust pipe, couldn't you boost test the whole thing in one shot? Or is there a limit to how much pressure it should hold before something begins to leak anyway?

I don't know what the threshold is but I suspect that too much pressure locked up in the crankcase would blow a seal or two. Mine did pass air somewhere when I conducted the test but I couldn't figure out exactly where it was going. like you said not all valves are going to be closed. I applied about 30 lbs constantly to the intake and sprayed soapy water on the places where it could leak. I had none so I figure I'm good.

If you block off the CCV line, then there shouldn't be any air going into the crankcase. (Edit: I suppose there will be some piston ring and valve stem seal leaks depending upon the test pressure. Possibly some through the turbo as well) Leaving the oil fill cap off would prevent crankcase pressurization and also provide feedback letting you know you have a leak into the crankcase, stick a latex glove over it and see if it fills up.

Yeah Adam, it's getting to the point where we really need one. I HATE it. Nothing wrong with Ike at all. He is in his prime, but I have others to think about besides myself.....and NO, this is not my wife's doing LOL She likes him as much as me.
Hopefully he will go to a good home. But, I am not settling either. I can't believe I've had him for two years already.

After this past month I'm starting to get tired of wrenching Fun every now n then but not daily. Wife's van threw codes for o2 sensors on 3 hr drive home Sunday night. 4 of those stupid things on that 6 cylinder. Now it has the underlying problem code, with a TSB on it for the software update that was done on it recently. Back to the dealerahip again. Can't remember if this makes the 8th or 9th time there since Dec 20th.
Guess I'm starting to know how those 6.7 guys feel

Oh man, I didn't expect that, Byron, that's quite a change. Will you stay with Ford? I've read fleet owners prefer the V10 for it's much lower cost over the life of the truck, both upfront and maintenance. But what about the torque, the noise, the stink? Everything we love about these beasts.

I'm in the same boat as Byron. Right now, I'm thinking either the 6.2L F250 or perhaps a Tundra. I'll dig further when it comes time to pull the trigger. Every year, I keep saying "in about another year", but I KNOW that I'm getting closer, and it may just be this fall after the '20's come out.
