In need of some help

hello my name is Thomas i am 20 years old and recently bought a 1979 f250 and im having a little trouble with it staying running, when i start it, fires right up and dies, put a new fuel pump and still the same thing, it has gas going into the carb, but i can only start it fully choked, i have moved the fuel air mix screws but when they are moved nothing changes. Also if i cover the top of the carb with my hands it will run for a short minute. i am thinking it is out of timing.
please help im trying to have fun with a older vehicle and rebuild it. please give me any advise
thank you

to start this is the bronco section. the fuel screws are not going to help you. check your fuel filter if it has one.

it could be a float prob or clogged jets if its been sitting and the gas evaporated.

it could be many things. start with making sure there are no vacuum leaks. hoses disconnected maybe a gasket out of place.

timing might be off but if its that lean i think its something else. float might not have been set right.
