I spent some of my "post Christmas" days off working in the garage, but NOT on my 2017 F250. I've been servicing the hubs, driveshafts, and brakes on my Jeep. Old school work for sure, I even hand-pack my bearings; none of those 'fancy' bearing packers for me.

aka,, the Titanic. brittle steel.. older poor steel...
if cold ,cracks like ice on a lake. blowing compressed Air on cool metal .. makes it colder..

aka,, before 1956.. most wheel bearing for cars were ball bearings. not taper roller bearings.... like on a bicycle.. only larger..
yes I am OLD.

why are today's Modular front wheel bearing hubs. using ball bearing AGAIN.. sad.

right there with chrome muffler bearings.. blinker fluid...3,000 mile oil changes.

I reckon they are those things that have two halves and a grease fitting. You put the bearing in and pump it up with grease. I have never used them.

This board needs a thumbs up function!!!.....thanks for the hearty laughs ...........
Feb. of 18 will be 45 years with wife.......
she's just about got me broke in....

Still lurking around having spent two weeks on the Cummins forums..... and tried to talk myself into a 6.7 really .......
but still a Ford fan at heart and the SD well still grabs me......
but being retired my heaviest load is about 8.5k so the 6.2L looks like the best fit ....... since my Tundra MPGs have me broke in for sure

for now just enjoying the topics......happy new year all .....

remember rubber side DOWN
hood portion goes into square building first, when the big wide door stops sliding upwards......

Honestly I didn't know there was such a thing as an auto grease packer. I have always done them by hand. In the last few years, with rubber gloves too! I was taught old school. When or if my offspring needs to know how to pack bearings, they will learn the same way.

I learned to pack wheel bearings by hand. Shop I use to work at had a fancy bearing packer thing. I still did them by hand. It was easier then messing with that thing.

I've always packed them by hand, the only thing I do different now is use gloves.
